Wow this has been an up and down week, and it's only half over! :p
For the up(s)
1) I got an email on Monday asking if I would be willing to take on another class for Fall. Honestly I had kind of been looking forward to only having one class for the semester, but then I was probably going to have to look for extra work somewhere. At least this cleared things up a bit financially. On top of that, it's going to be a larger-than-usual load for this course, due to a variety of reasons, so they basically told me to do away with any paper assignments or short-answer/essay questions as I felt necessary.
2) I was offered the position of head TA! I really really wanted it last year and was so upset when someone else was chosen over me, but all's well that ends well. I also found out this is actually a paying position too, so that means a bit o' extra money for fall and spring. Plus this should look pretty good on my vita.
3) D & I went looking at wedding bands. I was kinda pissy that mine cost more than I thought it was going to be. There's only one that *fits* with my e-ring, so I don't have a lot of options there. It's $400, which isn't horribly bad, as it's got some bling on it too, but still. Apparently D's mom has told him that she's going to help him out with it, just because he's been such a good kid and has always done what he was supposed to do (as opposed to his brother who is a bit reckless).
The down(s)
1) I got snapped at this morning for telling D to get out of bed when the alarm went off the 2nd time. He apologized like 3 times, but jeez....I'm going to move the alarm on HIS side of the bed!
2) (the big one) I got my reviews back on my article that I submitted a short while back, and they weren't great. They weren't horrible, either, but basically suggested that I needed to find a new journal. After checking with a colleague I did find out that this journal had been increasingly going for applied research vs. basic research, so that explains a lot of it. Still though, it's just upsetting to get rejected like that.
The neither here nor there (wedding crap)
I decided that I wanted to snazz up the invitations. We had just bought some plain ones that you print out yourself for about $36 for 100 of them (plus envelopes and response cards), and now I've been working on the wording and fonts and whatnot. It's probably going to end up looking a little less calligraphy and more 'nightmare before christmas' funky, just because. I also found this scrapbook paper to make sashes for the invites, and then we'll tie a ribbon around that. Here's the paper:
And they'll end up looking something like this:
Although not with the colored cardstock behind it. It's only adding about $10 total to what we've already spent, so not a big deal.
