~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ask Isaac Jaffe what he needs and he’ll tell you, “Nothing. Absolutely nothing.” He’ll even say it with a small satisfied smile on his face and contentment evident in his eyes. But if you ask him what he wants late at night when he allows himself to dream, he will tell you:
To get rid of the god-damned cane once and for all.
To pick up his grandson Matthew and throw him high up into the air without worrying about dropping him.
To wrap both arms around Esther (not just one) and dance with her until dawn.
Ask Charlie McCall what he needs and he will tell you excitedly, “Pokemon trading cards.” He will change his mind after a stern glare from his Mom and respond politely, “Oh, nothing. I’m fine, thank you.” If you get him alone and ask him what he really wants, he’ll tell you that he wants his Mom and Dad to never get back together again. His Dad is so much happier now and, while his Mom doesn’t actually smile more than she used to, she has lost that pinched look around her mouth. Plus, Danny comes around a lot more often.
Ask Kim Cornell what she needs and she will narrow her eyes, place her hands on her hips and say, “With a body like this, who says I need anything?” Then she’ll pout seductively and run a manicured nail up and down your arm until you buy her a drink.   If you wait until after she has had a few sour apple martinis and ask her what she wants, she will tell you that she wants to be judged by the size of her talent, not just the size of her breasts. She’s more than a pretty face, you know?
Ask Dan Rydell what he needs and he will quickly rattle off, “Mallomars. The Spice Girls. The Laker Girls. For soccer to be revealed as the truly amazing waste of time that it really is. Oh, and another beer. Can I get you one?” Talk with him a little while until he feels comfortable with you and ask him what he really wants and he’ll grow quiet. He will quickly scan the room and a small smile will cause just the edges of his mouth to turn up as his eyes settle upon Casey.    “Nothing man,” he’ll say. “I’m good.”
