Take the test My NEC MultiSync FE950 19" CRT monitor is starting to flake out. It starts with the top and bottom of the image starting to shake and then the entire desktop shrinks down to a thin horizontal line across the center of the screen until it smack it a few times. What is it about cathode ray tubes that makes them work after a good beating? Anyways, I've taken this as an excuse a sign that I should get a replacement and put that tax return money to good use. After all, fixing the A/C in my car can wait.
I'm of the opinion that since the monitor is the thing you look at most on a computer, you should get the biggest and best quality one that your money can afford. I bought a 15" Trinitron (that still works great to this day) when everyone else had those 14" fishbowl things. I got this 19" flat-CRT when 17" was the norm. Of course, now I must purchase an LCD flat screen monitor. Over half of my desk is taken up by this CRT and I'd be nice to have more room for unpaid bills, a lava lamp, burned DVDs, discarded receipts, napkins, half-eaten bags of chips, dirty dishes, and my cell phone charger. I'm just kidding about the bills. Always pay your bills on time. It makes for good credit.
So, on Friday, I ordered this little beauty. The Dell 2005FPW 20" widescreen LCD flat screen monitor. 1680x1050 resolution, 12ms refresh time, 600:1 contrast ratio, tilt/height/pivot adjustment, VGA/DVI/S-Video inputs, picture-in-picture, and with coupons and specials it came out to be $585 before tax. I really would have liked to get the 24" model that just came out but I'd have to sell Jane to be able to afford it.
She might hate me if I were to do such a thing...
It shipped on Saturday so it'll probably be here early in the week. You wouldn't think it'd take so long since Dell is just 30 minutes away. Oh well.
Here's hoping to no dead pixels or backlight bleeding. Or cancer. I goddamn fucking hate cancer.
