one of the things i did over the thanksgiving break was visit the museum of fine arts in houston. they have on loan 200 works of art from the new york museum of modern art. it was a chance for me to see works from seurat, van gogh, picasso, matisse, monet, mondrian, dali, and many others in person. it was amazing. seurat and van gogh just simply lose so much when you look at their works in books or in prints. the pieces from dali ("persistence of memory" was there) were astounding in their detail and vividness... and size. they're small! like notebook paper small.
