Happy Palm Sunday everyone.
I went to mass this morning. When I went into the chapel I saw a bunch of girls in long-sleeved white leotards and long white skirts. I didn't know who they were or why they were there but I just went into the chapel and sat down. Palm Sunday is my favorite mass. It's so joyful, the beginning of Holy Week, Lent is almost over, the music isn't so somber anymore, the palms smell fresh and lovely, and I love making crosses. Fr. Piszker's homily was very short, probably in response to the length of the Palm Sunday gospel, and after he sat back down the pianist began playing some beautiful music. I knew it but couldn't identify it. The girls, six in all, got up and stood in the center aisle and I realized that the song beginning was "Via Dolorosa", which I love. Just before the cantor began singing the girls started to dance this beautiful, somber kind of ballet. It was so lovely and moving, even though it wasn't executed perfectly. I found out later that these girls are the Liturgical Dancers. I don't know when else they dance because this was the first time I ever saw them. I hope to see them again.
I hope everyone has a blessed Holy Week and joyous Easter!
EDIT:
I meant to post this for anyone who wasn't familiar with the song. Lea Salonga (one of the greatest Broadway performers, IMHO) singing "Via Dolorosa":
