You see, the World Tree, Yggdrasil, or perhaps, in the past, the Great Kharlan Tree, isn't literally involved in holding the world together (that'd just be stupid), but in actuality, it binds the world together through its duties in balancing the flow of mana, which is, of course, the essence of all life and magic, which distills down to being the essence of the world. Should the World Tree ever wither, or even be afflicted with disease, the mana would rapidly disperse from our world, first causing the destruction of all magic, leading to the collapse of the society of the elves, who would, of course, be deprived of their longevity and would subsequently die off due to their inability to survive without their magic, having been dependent on it for so long, taking with them a vast and ancient culture. The first in the long line of a list of tragedies, we would further begin to see worldwide catastrophes including weather disruptions due to the vanishment of the Summon Spirits of the elements, the collapse of all magic-instilled ruins, temples, and cities (you'd be surprised how many there are), and of course, quite a bit of subsequent general rioting and unrest amongst the other races of the world that would likely lead to a collapse of all sentient civilization; it's further implied that our world has . . . . . . . . ....... in the past . . ..... ...........

. . . . .... . And so you see, that is what is truly meant but 'a tree that holds the world together'. Understand?
