Actually, Klarth was suggesting that maybe my special ability has to do with my intellect. He seems to think that I honestly did get smarter. I guess that's okay, but it still would have been much more enjoyable to grow wings and fly around the island a few times or something like that.
But now you'll be really good at school, right? I'm sure you'll be top of the class!
Um... [looks for something to demonstrate, and ends up picking a random table in her room] I can move through things! [drags her hands straight through the object like she's a ghost] See?
[Laughs.] Just because I'm smarter now, it doesn't mean I'll actually enjoy attending school, Colette. And also, being at the top would be kind of boring, wouldn't it? I'd much rather have a few challenges. Being the best at something is too easy - all you have to do is defend your title. You can't learn anything else or improve at all that way!
[Lloyd watches her curiously.] Yes, I saw it! So you're able to pass through other objects now? That has to be pretty convenient - you won't have to worry about tripping over anything anymore. [Laughs again.] I bet you'd make a wonderful ninja or something like that this way. Work on your stealth just a little bit, and you could appear out of nowhere and apprehend thieves.
So it's better to be at the bottom so you have somewhere to go?
[turns a little bit red because there's no way she's saying how she found out about this particular power. though the idea of a ninja...] R-really? You think so, Lloyd? [thinks to herself] I didn't realize there were thieves here.
No, silly. I'd say it would be most desirable to be somewhere in the middle.
Sure! I bet the city guards would love to be able to just walk right through walls and doors. Criminals hide in locked places that are difficult to acquire access to, you know.
[Laughs nervously, and scratches the back of his neck.] Well, to be honest I haven't heard of any thieves in Memento Eden, but there are strange things that happen. For example, that fairy that crashed through the apartment walls a few weeks ago.
But you know, we do have a jail, so it's possible that there are a few shady types lurking around somewhere.
Ugh! Hit backspace and lost it. >/fixmyresolveAugust 19 2009, 01:03:58 UTC
Hey! You need to learn to avoid apologizing for every tiny little thing, remember? You shouldn't feel sorry for things that you don't know. There's no conceivable way that anyone could have knowledge of absolutely everything there is to know. It just doesn't happen.
But don't ninjas normally do their work at night? ...that's also when shady types begin to come out of the woodwork...
It sounds like a decent idea to me. ...Just be careful, and if you ever need any backup, you know where I can be found!
But my sword technique is less than mediocre and I don't have any other abilities that would be useful in a situation like that. That's a problem.
Oh, of course! I'm sorr-- [stops mid-sentence. Congrats, Lloyd, you're getting somewhere. Perhaps it's because you sound so intelligent] I mean, I'll do my best to remember!
They do? [has to think on that one] Well, maybe I can be an afternoon ninja! It's almost like working at night. Though I might not see a lot of people in shades then.
But why would anyone wear shades at night...
[she sounds pretty impressed at that last part] You fight with a sword, Lloyd? I didn't know you were a swordsman! And I'm sure you're amazing with one!
I never realized he was quite THIS DUMB before. Wow. XDfixmyresolveAugust 20 2009, 00:34:27 UTC
[Just chuckles.] All right, Colette. Be sure that you do! I'm not planning on giving up.
An "afternoon ninja", is it? I guess it's similar enough, and it has a nice, unique ring to it. Sounds good!
...
[Laughs good-naturedly, rubbing the back of his head. Oh, how to break it to her gently? Well, might as well stick with the truth.]
I actually meant criminals, not people wearing sunglasses. People who seem suspicious are referred to as "shady", I guess because they sneak around and lurk in the shadows, something that suggests a person is up to no good.
...well...
[Sweatdrop.]
I've only battled with someone once that I can remember, and I lost badly. Her name was Aya and she was a variety of being called a "tengu", but she's no longer here. When I arrived in Memento Eden, I had two swords with me, so I've been trying to learn how to fight with a sword. Or two swords at once, as the case might be...
Nobody would agree to train me, so I saved up and purchased a set of books on the subject. Since then Nall and I have been learning
It's part of his charm, rly. |Dclutzy_chosenAugust 20 2009, 03:21:09 UTC
Great! You can keep reminding me, too!
Oh... [thinks moar, and ends up with another conclusion] What if they're hiding in the shadows to avoid the sun? Or I guess the moon? Then they just like shady areas!
Two swords? That's strange... Maybe one of them is a backup in case you drop the other? [she's never heard of someone using two swords before] It'll be amazing if you can fight with both of them at the same time!
But don't worry, Lloyd. I know you'll learn soon enough! It's great that Nall is training with you, too. I'd help but... [turns sheepish] I don't think there's a lot I can do.
Now with 100 icon slots.fixmyresolveAugust 21 2009, 02:41:54 UTC
I have a feeling I'll have to, but it's no problem! Sometimes people need reminding, right?
[Listens to her explanation, although he doubts this is the case either.]
Well, on some level... Avoiding the sun (or moon...) might be part of it. If it's too bright other people can see them and they can't complete their jobs, you see. That's why they sneak around - so they don't get caught!
That's right. I don't think either one of them is meant for back-up, though. They both seem to be really fancy and well-made. I can't imagine either of them being a mere substitute for the other. They're about the same size and weight, too. I bet a person could use them at one time if they were ambidextrous.
[Here Colette, have a look at the Material Blades. Just don't hurt yourself D:]
I'm sure I will. I mean, I don't think any of us will be leaving until we remember everything. [Not including the people who disappear, but Lloyd doesn't wanna say that because it's depressing.] I'm not too worried about it!
Oh hell yeah. 8Dclutzy_chosenAugust 23 2009, 04:32:11 UTC
Right! And you're a really good reminder too, Lloyd.
Oh, I see. I guess you're right... They're kinda like ninjas too, then!
[ooooh so shiny and pretty] What beautiful swords. They're such a pretty blue and red! [touches one, as if half-expecting it to shimmer] You must be an amazing swordsman already to have these.
... Huh? [Lloyd, you walking spoiler. Colette has no clue what that a Chosen is, and her expression says as much] A... Chosen?
Re: Oh hell yeah. 8DfixmyresolveAugust 24 2009, 04:04:51 UTC
[Decides to drop the ninjas XD]
[Rubs the back of his neck sheepishly[ Uh, well, thanks, I guess. Either way, I'll keep on trying.
[Watches Colette.] Maybe. I'm not completely sure, really. There's always a possibility that they were given to me. Actually, for all we know I could have stolen them from a master swordsman. But they're definitely high-quality swords, that much is a guarantee.
You're aware that people remember absolutely nothing at first, besides their given names, right? Well, I remembered a few things about you before you showed up. I didn't want to tell you right away because I figured that you'd already have a lot on your mind, what with losing your memories and appearing on some unknown island with brand new people.
I mean--!! It's not that I didn't want to tell you or anything! I could tell you what I know now if you think you're ready to hear it, but.
But you're not that kind of person, Lloyd. [says it with finality, like there's no room for discussion] But they would make a wonderful gift for you!
[she's not sure why Lloyd looks nervous. She doesn't mind. In fact, she looks happy] Really? You remember me? [clasps her hands together] Maybe if you tell me about myself, I'll start to remember faster on my own!
Well, you may be right. I don't think I'd do that under normal circumstances, but I mean, anything could technically happen, right? Still, stealing's wrong - I don't want to think I'd stoop that low under any circumstances!
Hmm... I wonder...
...uh. [Well this is working out better than he expected.]
Well, of course I did. If I didn't remember anything about you, how would I have known that we were friends in the first place?
[Heaves a sigh and nods.] All right, I'll tell you what I remember - just keep in mind that I don't remember everything yet. What I do know is your name is Colette Brunel and we grew up together in a town called Iselia. Iselia's not very big, but it's a pretty nice place overall. There's a school and a temple nearby to a goddess named Martel. According to Professor Klarth, in his world, Martel is a kind of spirit. And then my dad and I live outside the town in a cottage in the woods
( ... )
I'm sorry you didn't get a power though...

Maybe I can be a ninja part-time then! I can work in the afternoons after I'm done at the cafe! I wouldn't want any um, 'shady' types to be around.
