Can't win.

I finished the roof.

In doing so I also tore up my hands. Shingles will do that, so will hard work in general.

I found myself wishing that I had tougher hands while doing the roofing work. But then when I went to give my wife a shoulder massage, we found that rough hands are simply not good for that- I had to soak my palms in oil for a few minutes before they were comfortable enough on her skin. While at work, several people winced as I shook their hands because of the rough surface of my fingers. I also couldn't get decent purchase on paper or money, which I handle quite often.

It seems that there really isn't a happy medium between the two things. I can be one or the other, not both.

My job paid me an unexpected bonus. I had forgotten nagging them about qualifying me for the program until they finally acquiesced. They also informed me not to expect another because I had, essentially, broken the bonus program. It was designed for locations with exponentially less revenues than mine, so a percentage-based increase means far more for me than others.

While it was unlooked-for money, at the same time the brakes went out in my car and the water heater broke down. So the windfall went largely unremarked.

These displays of karmic balance and physical imbalance confuse me about what sort of things I'm supposed to be learning about life.
