GURPS 4th Edition

Mar 21, 2004 22:49

I have recently learned that GURPS is going into a 4th edition, being released in August. As I stated in my previous entry, I'm not one to jump on bandwagons. I'm going to outline my reasons for and against and if anyone cares to comment one way or the other, I'm certainly listening.

Reasons for:

Keep up with new releases: Once G4 comes out, all subsequent GURPS books will be written with it in mind.

Need replacements anyway: My current Basic Set and Compendiums are suffering wear from all the loving use. I could buy replacement copies of the current edition, but see reason #1.

Big gorgeous books: With G4, all books will be hard cover and contain full color art on top of an exessive amount of high quality GURPS material.

Reasons against:

Expense: The Basic Set will be divided into 2 books totalling $75. Subsequent books will be more expensive due to the size, art, and hardcover.

3rd Edition is not broken: It took them 15 years to find enough material worth revising to be worth a completely new edition. The new edition may be more an attempt to compete with the presentation of D&D books. And D&D has also proven that people actually will pay $40 for an RPG book.
