british films that don't suck.

Saw this one last night.

Wild Target is about the world's sweetest assassin (played by Bill Nighy, who else!) and the outrageous thief (Emily Blunt) he's hired to kill. It's also got Rupert Grint being naked a fair bit which will make those of us who still remember Philosopher's Stone movie like it was yesterday feel really awkward but hey, kid's a good actor and can grow facial hair nowadays so whatev.

I enjoyed it. It wasn't amazing but considering how low my expectations tend to be with British films after countless disappointments, it wasn't bad, either.

Four Lions, a comedy about home-grown jihadists I saw and loved back in May but I think it's out on DVD in parts of the world by now so well worth getting your hands on, if you can (or just downloading - I think if it gets a US anything, it'll be a very small anything).

The director really kind of achieved the impossible here; it's a hilarious comedy that doesn't condone the actions of its characters but also doesn't tar their religion with the extremist brush. These guys are idiots - dangerous idiots, but idiots nonetheless. And watching them reach new heights of idiocy is simply hilarious.

Unlocked post for the fuck of it.
