yuletide recs, '09 round.

I hate & love the archive getting bigger and bigger each year. I love more fic but I can't possibly read all the fic for all the fandoms I know, so I end up prioritizing and probably missing out on a lot of really good stuff and I'm sure the stuff I've overlooked is good, too, but ..for now this will do.

a history of revolution by anon in Capital Scandal, Wan/Yeo-kyeong - MY STORY. And how much I do adore it. A lot of research seems to have gone into this story and its historical portrayal and it feels like a very, very believable post-canon look at how these characters' lives continued. I love it a ton and it's so great to see CS fic.

Four conversations Cha Song-joo never had, and one she did by anon in Capital Scandal, Song-joo/So-hyun - Another really good story in CS and one that's mostly AU but still captures the awesomeness of the character perfectly. She is truly a one-of-a-kind female character.

Cable & Deadpool

The Cable & Deadpool Yuletide Special is the one fic everybody seems to be reccing but HOW COULD I NOT ALSO because it's Nate & Wade bodysliding in Yuletide stories for all the fourth-wall-breakingness the world could take and it's so them with the slashy subtext and bromance and awesomeness. Seriously. If you don't know the fandom, you can still read this. And THEN you can get into the comic itself because you should.

Dhoom 2

Encounter Specialists is D:2 femslash which is something I never thought I'd read or rec but this is quite something. It takes Sunehri (Aishwarya) and Shonali (Bipasha) and fleshes them out into actual character, not just sexy cardboard cut-outs. It writes them a connection, or several, and it makes that connection one to actually root for, and the writing is peppered with desi-isms to make for a really authentic feel. It's just brilliant. I wish I'd written something this epic for Yuletide.

Faking It - Jennifer Crusie

And to All a Goodnight is kind of a Herculean effort at 21k+ words of continuation for this awesome chicklit novel that might as well be penned by the original author for how good it is. I still haven't finished reading it but I gotta rec it because it's crazygreat.

Press Gang

Memories Are Not Made of This is Spike and Lynda bickering/bantering and what's better than that? Not much, in my world. The other story in PG this year was also pretty good, here's a link and contained cutesy Sam/Kenny.

Top Gear (UK)

The Helicopter is a TG3 gen story with just the sort of hilarious fail I expect from TG3. I prefer my fic in this fandom to be cracky and funny and this certainly was that.

Futurama

Be My Brussels Sprouts is a shippy mess and I love it for that. I'm not sure why I ended up reading this because I'm actually only a casual watcher of the show but based on that limited knowledge of canon, this fic was so Futurama and made me giggle and 'aww' and yeah, it's just really recommendable.

The IT Crowd

The Eviction Notice is probably the most believable-feeling IT Crowd slashfic I've read, and it's very funny and just awesome like that.

Kaminey

Pinjre Mein Chand is a Mikhail-centric ficlet and it just feels like it fits the movie's world perfectly. And how great that now there's more Kaminey fic out there!

Modern Family

in the house we see a light (that comes from what we feel inside) is a Christmassy story that takes a look at inside each character and does so perfectly tuned to the show's sense of humor and it's an utter delight.

Harold & Kumar movies

This is the kind of thing I love Yuletide for, because I felt a sudden desire to read some cutesy, in-character Harold/Kumar slash (as you do) and the archive provided me with two awesome ones; It's the Thought that Counts is a story of presents and has terrific dialogue and Rejoicing as an Integer is about getting it and is fluffy as hell.

There's a couple of more stories in my Ao3 bookmarks and some I commented but forgot to add to bookmarks and so many I still intend on reading and kdhf ohgod Yuletide why so overwhelming.
