yuletide author revealing + story notes.

So, I wrote these stories for Yuletide this year...

Direct Evidence & How to Take Care of a Japanese Peace Lily, both in Hot Fuzz fandom.

Oh, and as a Yuletide Treat, something in Love Pistols fandom: Throwing your body to the wolves

Direct Evidence is the story that really matches what my recipient asked from me. The second one was an extra I sort of worked out on the side, the story that just happened when I began thinking of the character of Nicholas.

Hot Fuzz is like the perfect movie script, too funny to match in fic and maybe that's why I was running low on inspiration. With the help of some stress, some hand-holding from my beta sazzlette and just deciding to get both stories written even if it kills me, I finished both and ended up reasonably happy with the result. They're not brilliant and in the fandom there were better stories written (I should comment on those stories but I suck at yuletide this year, it seems), but I think I did the best I personally could. I signed up to Yuletide the very evening I came back from cinema after seeing the film, by the way.

Thanks to everybody who commented! Especially on Direct Evidence, the praise for its dialogue made me feel better. The problem with writing a story that's supposed to make the reader laugh or at least giggle is always like, "but er, is this funny? am I just being silly? is it actually lame?". Especially when the source material is so friggin' funny and amazing.

Something I have to mention about How to Take Care... which I already mentioned in beta thanks but nobody probably reads those: everything about Japanese peace lilies is 100% made up. How come? Well you know, I did do my research and my research - or, you know, what 1.5 hrs of googling I did - tells me Japanese peace lilies don't exist. Every reference to them online is connected to the movie. Peace lilies, on the other hand, do exist. My mum has one, in fact. And as I recall it, Nicholas' peace lily in the movie is just that - an ordinary peace lily. Japanese just to make it sound cooler, I guess. :P

But hey it was fun coming up with fictional botany trivia. I had to mention this because the first commenter (Tish) called the fic educational, which is a lovely thought but sadly untrue. This is most uneducational. :)

Oh, and this line: This one is supposed to be the Bollywood remake of Bad Boys II. It's called Garam Bhur. Apparently very entertaining.

Must thank my Bollywood peeps Amz & Specsy for the Hindi help. Garam Bhur more or less translates "hot fuzz" (though in this case, fuzz may actually be fur or more lint-like stuff, Hindi has no real word for 'fuzz'). I would so so watch a Bollywood remake of Bad Boys II (in fact I am fantasy-casting it in my head right now).

I kept both fics on the safe side of slashy, sort of in tune with the canon. So if you want to read it as just friendship, go ahead, if you see something more, you're not alone. I quite like how the movie walks that line so perfectly. Basically I just love the movie a lot.

Oh, and Love Pistols ficlet just something I thought I'd throw in since some fic ideas for the fandom had been circling in my head anyway. I'm not absolutely happy with it but that's just because it IS the first time I ever wrote anything in said fandom. Thanks to the two who commented on it, especially seshat who it was written for. :)

All in all, good times. :)
