Deleted a big bunch of icons. So sad to depart from them. For yay for new cute ones, like this one.
Only one movie this week, I suck.
Tada, kimi wo aishiteru (Heavenly Forest)
The plot of this film goes a little something like this; two outsiders friend each other in university. The girl falls in love with the boy, the boy doesn't return her feelings (and instead crushes on the prettiest girl in school) but she tells him he will, one day. Meanwhile, they remain friends, find a secret forest, take pictures together and because of circumstances end up living under the same roof.
I've seen less than 10 Japanese movies but this film reminded me what was so hopelessly wrong with a ton of Asian films. And at the same time, it made me think of what's so perfectly right about so many Asian films. Basically, several things about this movie were disappointing and I couldn't feel but kind of cheated because of the ending - I was crying like a waterfall because that was mostly because of the clever, talented emotional manipulation of the movie. I loved both leads - even the female who I'd previously disliked in Nana - and their chemistry and romance was adorable. Some things were confusing, some things made me angry because I knew the cliche they were going to go with and then when it was ending, I kept hoping, please no let me be wrong and tadah - I was wrong, but at the same time what I suspected would happen, happened.
Oh man. Confusing movie. Just not in the traditional sense.
SPOILER (highlight to read): So here's the real deal - EVERYBODY DIES IN ASIAN MOVIES. So I knew somebody would kick the bucket and there were signs and I thought it would be him but nooooo, it had to be her, her sweet face turning more beautiful and she dies BECAUSE OF IT and LOVE KILLS and sajdgjsdgfjdgf whyyyyy couldn't they just be together?? And why couldn't he figure out his love until she was gone?! STUPID fictional character. Gahhhh. So maybe I have some hidden aggressions against this movie but on the other hand, the scene where he's at her photo show and sees her pictures omg omg omg omg I cried so hard.
Oh the things I do because of Tamaki Hiroshi's hotness. *shakes head*
