Nodame Cantabile owns my face. Here are 8 reasons why.

1. NODAME. CHIAKI. Crackiest, most wonderful(ly bizarre) OTP ever. They are such ultimate opposites it's incredible. He's so by-the-book, cool, neat and organized and so good at everything he does. She's unfortunate and all over the place and the messiest person ever, even when she plays; ( Read more... )

Let me just begin this by saying that this is one of those dramas which make me rush into a discussion of why I love it so much whenever anyone mentions it. However, half-way through I start flailing madly because my love for it is so great that it makes the drama!fan girl part of me take over completely.

And let me just say that I'm not even that musical a sort of person, in the sense that there's a greater chance that I'll use a musical instrument to whack someone on the head with than I am to use it to make pretty sounds --but, but, but I don't know how it happened (because my only reason for starting the drama was because I thought Tamaki was hot) but some of my favorite scenes ended up including the whole orchestra.

(Like when they are practicing for their first concert and suddenly the whole orchestra breaks into these weird rock-out poses and it is just so unexpected because you don't usually think of the words orchestra and rocking out in the same sentence. So you sort of have a wtf? face going before it hits you and you start laughing so hard because what just happened was so cracky that it left you in shock for a moment.)

And, and, and... I think I'm gonna have to stop gushing now because if I keep flailing this much I'm not gonna be able to sleep later on tonight.

On an unrelated note... um, hello, person I don't know. It is nice that we share a common interest.

I'm so with you re: musicality. I prefer cheesy pop or indie rock to anything with violins/orchestras but I'm so so into the classical music in Nodame - it makes classical music cool, and not just with Mine's "rock" moves. The orchestra/music scenes are my favourites besides the OTP moments - and thus far, the orchestra scenes have been *better* than the OTP scenes (Chiaki hasn't fully warmed up to Nodame yet!). I'm actually considering acquiring the soundtrack or something.

I was innocently oblivious to Tamaki's hotness before watching. Hot Japanese men are a fully uncharted territory for me.

Hee, hello! :D

Especially the last concert at the end. Oh GOD the end! It owns me so HARD. What with the manly crying, and the "rock moves", and GUH! I watched this and wanted to BE in an orchestra. And like I said, I am not a very musical sort of person, which, okay, I understand would really make this something hard to accomplish. But who cares! I'd settle for playing the kazoo.

OMG I finished it!! (Good thing I did before reading this comment!)

I was cheering for them to do all those S-oke things and then they did them and I was *overjoyed*, enjoying it so much. Other really good bits were whenever Nodame and Chiaki played together and the S-oke performance and the 2nd S-oke performance with Nodame's pianika.

The last ep was full of amazingness in general, too, though, like Chiaki's trip to her hometown and him clinging onto her (<3) and him meeting her family (hilarious!).

So much love for this show.

And when he's hugging her and he asks her to come to Europe with him. To Europe. TO EUROPE!!! And this is the second time he's asked! (Because she'd said no during that not-quite fight that they had after her competition) AND AND well you know how the episode goes.

Um. I think I'm gonna need to watch this drama again to ease my excitement a bit, because if not I'm gonna end up doing something irrational like getting a tattoo of a musical note on my forehead to show my love for it.

But, on a more sane note, one thing I really really liked about this drama-- besides the unbelievable awesomeness that was the S-oke-- is that even though the OTP's relationship wasn't something that was the main focal point in each episode, they did manage to get across that there was a very deep bond between Chiaki and Nodame.

I knooooow. I love it so much. And the Europe invitation is as close as he's come to telling her, "I love you" and in his language it clearly is a love confession. I love how he keeps denying it when he's at her house and she's like, "So why are you here?" and he can't come up with a good excuse and mutters ridiculous stuff.

Yep. It wasn't too heavy on the OTP action but it never forgot it - it allowed us to like the side characters as well as follow the story of the couple. In many times, the storylines of the orchestra business and the OTP one would support each other perfectly.

You know I've heard rumors saying that there might be a sequel and I'm really in a kind of uncomfortable place about it, because as much as I'd love to see the relationship of the characters develop I am terrified that a sequel would ruin the awesomeness that was the original.

I know what you mean. I want it to continue but as good as it was.. The change of milieu from Japan to Paris might not be too good. Based on what I know, Western/foreign extras in Asian dramas ARE NOT the best of actors and usually bring down the drama with their ridiculousness. They did pull it off here with the occasional French-/German-speaker but if the whole thing is set in Paris, how could they cope with that? Difficult. :/

I hadn't even thought about the extras. I was just thinking that I was gonna spaz if the writters suddenly came up with a really crappy script and made the series suck. But, god, now I can't stop thinking about the extras.

Well, I see as manga-based live action shows semi-safe in the script writing department.. If they follow the manga closely at all or adaptate the events of the manga into the plot, I reckon they'd be reasonably safe in continuing it well. :)
