heroes semi-live blogging.
I'll be editing this post as I watch more.
So I finished watching 17 and ep 16 is refusing to download so I have to watch it online. WITH FRENCH SUBS AGAIN THANK YOU NOT VERY MUCH. Though I'm used to NOT looking at them by now, so it's cool.
Regarding 17, omg. Was that NOT the most killer ep of Heroes, EVER? I THINK SO YEAH. The effects, the flashbacks, the EVERYTHING. And especially the HRG/Claire relationship, oh god. That is the most beautiful familial bond ever.
Which gets me thinking re: BroYay (or a term sonormalithurts introduced me to, "bromance" omg ick) and all that other incest stuff in fandom. Because here's a bond that's not biological but so clearly familial love and I *love* it and I would never want to even consider turning it into something else. It's fantastic. I fucking cried and I hardly ever cry watching anything, but when she embraced him and said, "I love you, dad." I was just falling apart big time. It was incredible.
I guess it kind of gets you thinking about the emphasis on romantic relationships in both good and bad. Good in that hey, shipfic *is* fun. Pairings are neat. Bad in that it may feel like there aren't other type of relationships left to be written. Familial, friendships, work-relationships - I don't know if the invisible guy and HRG are being paired but it wouldn't surprise me if they were. So like, if your life was a fandom, you'd be technically doing it with your brother, your best friend, that guy who's always at your local café when you go in to buy a sandwich, the annoying jerk at work (yourloveissobickering!), your boss etc.
But you know, that's not new to anybody who's ever been in a fandom. But isn't somebody doing something wrong somewhere when people are mistaking familial bonds for "omg so doing it"? I don't mean to target the Petrellis because really it also touches, Supernatural, Numb3rs etc. I suppose in some ways fandomers will slash anybody regardless of whether they're living, dead, brothers, sheep, but I don't know. I guess what I'm trying to say is - if folks look at Claire and HRG and go "I love their father-daughter bond!" and then look at Petrellis and go "Wow, that's so gay!" then shouldn't the Heroes writers be able to fix this?
Or does it really just come down to basic simple things, like the fact they're both good-looking adult-but-not-old guys who'd be really hot together? Does the fandom collective mind really just work that simply? Whereas Claire and HRG have age difference and such to stop people from thinking of them romantically.
By the way, I'm still unconvinced re: Petrellicest. I find it amusing but still - come the fuck on, guys. So what, they touch each other a little. They're ITALIAN. It's what Italians do. Bellissimo!
