10 reasons why heroes and its fandom rocks (SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS up to 1x12 and casting spoiler for tonight's ep, in case anyone needs a warning)
1. The term "BroYay".
2. Catch phrases a go-go! Save the cheerleader, save the world. & Are you on the list?
3. The fanlicious official NBC website with cast commentaries (only for Americanos but we foreigners can enjoy them
here) and comics, sorry, graphic novels and Hiro's
BLOG, full of geekery.
4. It's like geek meets cool - the whole show that is. Or rather, geek becomes cool.
5. The BroYay moments and even the CAST admitting they're gaying it up big time. I was sort of like, "Oh...kay." before but now I'm just enjoying it on that "Haha! Fanservice!" type of way.
6. Okay, so they ended two terrific het ships before they got started - Mo/Eden, Charlie/Hiro - but at least with the latter, I got to bawl like a baby. Now that doesn't happen too often. So damn good job, show!
7. GEORGE FRIGGIN' TAKEI.
8. The further awesome of bringing in new Heroes omg omg.
9. Hiro and like, anyone. But mostly Ando, Charlie, and Nathan. Omg OT4? I KID I KID.
10. Oh and then there's like the mysterious story which just builds up to further and further awesome in every single way.
ETA: Ouch. I am stupid and ran into wank.
I was like, "Oh wait, James Kyson Lee (who plays Ando) is Korean? Cool!" *checks IMDB*
I AM SO STUPID FOR READING THE BOARDS AS WELL AS THE SITE. Omg. They just completely bash his Japanese. WTF. His accent can be off, of course, he's of Korean heritage and on top of that, lived all his life in the US but he sounds pretty goddamn fluent to me. They wouldn't have hired him if he a) wasn't fluent and b) couldn't act. Though really I think b) is what REALLY matters here, as Japanese speakers probably don't count for that huge a portion of the Heroes audience. b) and possibly c) chemistry with Masi, which is EXCELLENT.
ARGH SHUT UP. They all admit that his Japanese is excellent, it's just the pronunciation/accent they have a problem with. CRY ME A FUCKING RIVER.
I understand their issue - I'd have a problem with a Swede who knew Finnish but spoke it with a dreadfully SWEDISH accent being passed off as Finnish. But if this was on a major US network TV show, I'd probably also just be like, "Sweeeet, representation!". And if said Finnish character was one of the awesomest characters on the show? Yeah, I'd STFU.
I did notice that in Madras, which is the capital of Tamil Nadu, they had files and road signs in Devganari, which is not a script used to write Tamil, which is what folks in Tamil Nadu speak - period. I'm not wanking about it all over the place, though, and I'm cool with Mohinder speaking English only, too (which makes sense but I'd assume if his family lived in India they would've realistically most likely spoken at least a bit of some Indian language like Hindi or Tamil or whatever, no matter how educated) - he's so hot I'd forgive him for only speaking in sign language - so it's just like, OMFG get the fuck over it! Errors regarding nationality/cultural stuff like that on an American show - BOUND TO HAPPEN. Learn to live with it, especially on a show where such errors are pretty minor.
PEOPLE. Hate.
