It's a rather popular point of information that Duke Ellington wouldn't hire a man for his band who couldn't dance. I think this is a very valid observation.
Everyone has one of those "the guy I marry has GOTTA be blah blah" lists. Some are very long. I discovered this in my dance class tonight where everyone was divulging their plans for their future weddings, how they wanted their proposal to go, the design of their dream dress, how many bridesmaids they'd have, what color the napkins would be at the reception, whether there'd be confetti, et cetera. I've never done the "omg must plan wedding" thing. Doesn't it make more sense to wait for a guy first? I think the wedding would depend on the guy as well, and planning these things beforehand takes away from the intrigue of it all. So far, my list is very short. The guy I want:
should be taller than me
must have nice (hands/eyes) (one or both, optional)
and now,
must be able to dance. at least a little. or be willing to try.
I mean, if you think about it, someone's attitude toward dancing can say a lot about a person. It says something about their confidence. Obviously, it exposes their sense of rhythm. It also says a lot about their social ease which, in the last year or so, has become something of interest to me. More thoughts on this later.
