Oh puh..lease... Mathematicians and physicists assume so much in trying to prove their theories.
Assume this and hence we get that. Or assume that and we get this! Blargh.. That's why I hated both those subjects..
Now history and chemistry are interesting cos they are so much more certain (except people's motives/inspirations for actions in history ;) but then, people are inherently unpredictable (thankfully so))
Maths, physics have assumptions too. But most people don't have to go so deep. History is certain? The more I read of it, I find it controversial at every single step!
Chemistry..could be anything. I never understood any of it :D
But most people don't have to go so deep. I had to go deep enough. Not as much as a research, but deep enough to put me off liking physics ;)
Uh, and in history, what facts are known, they are certain. (atleast from when it was recorded) But then, since history is/was written by humans, there will always be an element of bias by the writer, either being more critical or favorable towards a the subject being written!
True, I agree higher mathematics is too disconcerting because of all the assumptions and basically the intangibleness of the subject. But I was talking about school and college math which always had one and only one solution as opposed to business studies etc where the myriad ways of tackling a problem used to leave me confused. Exactly what the comic depicts.
You've apparently not studied CBSE/IIT level math have you? Even those have enough assumptions to make it uncertain in understanding if you do not accept the assumption.

Chemistry is a lovely subject. I loved it..
