Book 33: The Icarus Hunt by Timothy Zahn

The Icarus Hunt is one of the best books I've ever read. I think it's the first real modern sci-fi I've read that wasn't in the Star Wars universe. By modern I mean not considered a classic, like Asimov, Heinlein, or Vonnegut. But this novel was utterly fantastic. I love love love love LOVE The Icarus Hunt! I had the same reaction as you did to the end - WOW! I was finishing it during my lunch break at work, and I went WAY over an hour because I couldn't put it down! I had such a major crush on the main character after the ending, heh. Now that you mention it, I think I might re-read this book as part of my 50. :)

If you want to read other Zahn books, his Dragonback young adult books are pretty quick and easy reads, and quite good. The only other non-Star Wars book I've read by him is Manta's Gift, which was interesting and had a very intriguing premise, and was well-written, but was just kinda "eh." I want to read more of his non Star Wars stuff, though.
