It's that time of the year again! Time for me to figure out which new shows, if any, are good enough to add to my must-watch roster. Here are the best and worst of the freshman candidates, along with the returning champs...

REAPER (THE CW)That Kevin Smith directed the pilot of the CW's latest attempt at hip horror may be both a blessing and ( Read more... )

You missed Big Shots. I'm unsure if I like it or not. It's a very guys guy kind of show. I love whose on the show but I don't know how much I can handle of this type of show. It sounds like the dirty, sexy, money part that is missing from Dirty, Sexy, Money is on this show instead.

Reaper, loved. I love the 2 main guy characters. I like that the one guy keeps getting shows. I had wanted to love the last show he did, The Loop, but it started to get a bit ridiculous. Thus the fact it's no longer on. And his buddy was on Invasion, which I miss. We're hoping that Reaper stays on track and doesn't go downhill. Also, we figured out the store they work at, it's more a Wal-Mart. :p

I'm not watching Dirty Sexy Money, Aliens In America (oh Luke, how you have fallen from Gilmore Girls), Bionic Woman, or The Big Bang Theory (they have yet to figure out a show to fill that slot w/How I Met Your Mother which is an AWESOME show).

We're watching Heroes of course and I have to admit it has been a little slow. There are still some main characters that we have yet to see much of and I've been hearing rumors of how introducing so many new chacters may kill the show. But I can't wait to see Kristen Bell.

Pushing Daisies is up against about a hundred other shows I'm trying to watch at that time so I plan to catch it in it's rerun on Saturday. There's been a lot of hype about this show so I'm a little bummed to hear you say it's not delivering. BUT...if it fails, that's one less show I have to worry about fitting in to my already full fall watching.
I'm having the same issue w/Chuck. It's on at the same time as other shows I watch but we watched it when it rerun this past Saturday. We all liked it a lot which I was surprised because the idea of the show didn't really appeal to me, but it is very entertaining. I have dubbed the actor who plays Chuck the new Zach Braff. Same types of mannerisms. From what I saw Bravo is rerunning this show so hopefully we will not have to miss it entirely.

You said what I was trying to figure out about what I don't like about Ugly Betty. All the episodes ARE the same. I didn't find myself enjoying the season start as much as I remember liking all last season. Maybe that was because it was new last year and now I've already seen it. I have a feeling if I stopped watching I wouldn't miss much. And I'm kinda already over the character of Betty. I think the characters around her are more enjoyable/interesting to watch.

I was so looking forward to Back To You and I hated it. Once they introduced the "love" child I was out. I still have the last episode to watch, I want to give it another chance just to be fair, but I doubt I will be watching this one.

I like Gossip Girl BUT I liked The OC at first and bailed half way thru the first season. We'll see how much I can stand of this one. Kristen Bell narrates and it is one of the reasons I like to watch. And seriously! What was the deal w/the one song on a loop?!!?! I like the song but COME ON! Did they get some kind of perk from the record company for that or could they just not afford a variety of songs for that episode??? Sheesh!

I had wanted to watch Moonlight but I missed it on Friday and then it's repeat on Saturday. The idea sounded good but once I saw a preview commercial it made me think it was gonna be bad. Sounds like I didn't miss anything. Well, besides wasting an hour of my life.

I have Big Shots saved, but it got trashed, so I don't know if I'll bother.

Most tend to disagree with me about Pushing Daisies. It has a tone that just really annoys me, which is why I don't enjoy most Wes Anderson movies. I feel like it's shouting, "I'm both whimsical and melancholy!" in my ear. They're just so not grounded in reality. But if that's your bag... It's executed pretty well, I will say.

That's Kirsten Bell narrating Gossip Girl? Haha. I didn't know. I must say I hate the way they use that narration. She sort of growls her lines. But the real problem is just how awkward it seems. I'm just like, "Who's talking? Where is she? HOW DOES SHE KNOW??"

Except Buffy actually really was grounded in reality. It told really interesting dramatic stories that just happened to include an apocalypse. But the human drama was always just as riveting as everything else. That's the problem with Heroes right now - none of the characters are really experiencing anything emotionally, it's all just plot.

And myths like "vampires" and "demons" and "Joss Whedon having talent."

I totally agree with your assessment of Heroes, I'm just saying it's rather ludicrous for a Joss Whedon fanboy to fault Wes Anderson movies... for suspending reality.

Not at all for suspending reality. It's about the reality of people's emotions. On Buffy and other things I like, people react to things the way real people would. It happens to be vampires on that show, but the reactions are the same basic reactions you or I would have to vampires. And then of course, things like comedies/satires exaggerate them, but they're rooted in something real. Pushing Daisies does it moreso than Anderson, but I have never really been emotionally invested in Anderson's characters. When they feel something, they seem to be feeling it in a very precious, cute way rather than actually experiencing it.

This guy apparently had more time to come up with an argument than I do:

After tonights episode of Reaper we think they have combined Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Cotco AND Target to make one MEGA store. BWAHAHAHAHAAAAA *evil taking over the world laugh*

The narrator on Gossip Girl is an odd thing because it's not a character you ever see. I assume it's one of those people that's always around and knows everything but you never notice them.

I think it kinda pulls you out of the show.

Not that I was heavily invested in it, anyway.
