OH SHIT UPDATE
Sorry you all haven't heard from me in a while, but my computer broke down back in late May, and wasn't fixed until mid June. I made a deal with the computer gods: "Let my computer function for the rest of my last semester of college, and then do what you will." And it did. Immediately after graduation, my motherboard fucked off and died for like the third damn time this year. In the intervening weeks, I simply fell out of the journal habit.
It's always hard to retroactively write about my life, so I'll just tell you what's going on right now. I graduated, first and foremost. SInce then I've been living in Boston and working at AMC theatres. It's not the worst summer job in the world, but the fact remains that I'm stuck doing dignity-eroding customer service work so I can hopefully maybe barely afford rent but not really. It's pretty balls.
I've also started dating somebody I met on OkCupid. Her name is Sam, and she recently finished her Master's in vocal performance at the New England Conservatory of Music. She's training to be an opera singer, and she's currently performing in Die Fledermaus in Rome. The relationship has its good parts, bad parts, and very good parts, but I have no idea what the future holds. But to perfectly honest, we just startred dating, and she'll be in Italy until mid-August. And I may very well be leaving by September. So I'm not expecting much.
Tommy lost his job. The restaurant he works at is going under. This coincided with his 21st birthday, which he celebrated here in Boston, and then with old friends in LA, and now in his home town in New Jersey. The girls are pretty much as they've always been.
I have no idea whether I'll be staying in Boston in the fall. I realize I'm running out of time to decide, but I keep running the pros and cons through my head, and my feelings honestly waffle from day to day. A friend is looking for a roommate: it's cheaper than my place, but not quite cheap enough. It all depends on whether or not I'll be able to get a better job or somehow supplement my income. That's looking increasingly unlikely, so I'll probably be coming home to Rochester for a while, even if it's just temporarily until I run off to some new place of opportunity.
Mostly I've just been working this summer, getting to know Sam, and dealing with the massive headache that is a broken computer. I'm trying to spend the next two works on a campaign of self-improvement. I'm going to get tougher on myself about writing more often (I have a few rough drafts of poems I've slapped together lately, but nothing too spectacular). I'm also going to trying and get Tommy to help me figure out an exercise routine when he gets back from Jersey, because honestly, when I am going to live with a wannabe bodybuilder again? I should take advantage. I also wanted to learn to cook this summer, but since I'm frequently too broke to afford groceries, that really hasn't happened.
I'll be coming home on the 21st, in preparation for my stepsister's wedding. Anyone currently reading this is welcome to call me up and hang out with me while I'm town. And by "welcome," I of course mean "required."
