Touching

Everyonce in a while you get blind sided by the character of another human being. YOu've met them before perhaps even heard them speaking to a group of friends of family.

Today i was blindsided by a man who's character is overflowing with careing and compassion. The head of the CAS department at SIUC: Dr. Seymour Bryson.

Now, saying an administrator is dedicated and careing and compassionate is about the same as describeing toilet paper as saying a college is venerable, and prestegiouse. You can use those words to describe any college or university and it doesn't really tell you anything about them.

Today is my first day back in carbondale alone. My first day back here dience december 15th. I was born on december 18th, or 1987. When i opened my mailbox today i foud a simple card that i will keep with me for a long time. However the card simply said "Happy Birthday" and was signed "Symour Bryson". For a man who's incharge of the entire CAS department at SIUC (Almost 500 people.) to fillout a birthday card for every student and drop it in their mailbox is something that i just recognize deeply as something that has tremendous meaning.

If i ever meet him in person and get a chance to ask him a question the first one i ask will be what made him decide to send out birthday cards.
