Duct Tape Dress Form for Ella

Mar 20, 2011 14:19

I'm teaching Ella to sew. She has completed 2 bags and now wants to make a skirt. We decided to make a dress form which is something I thought I might want for myself but have decided I really don't want to know how I look. Mirrors are getting scary enough.

The bag she made is below. Unfortunately, she thought she had bought 100% wool on her trip to Scotland but when we tested it, we found it was mostly acrylic and probably very little, if any, wool. Working with the acrylic was very difficult because she couldn't press it. As most of you know, acrylic is basically plastic and will melt when heated. That made the bag very difficult to sew. She still did an amazing job with it, but will probably never by acrylic fabric again. Good lesson learned.

Next project - a fitted skirt. We cut it out today. It's hard to keep Ella on task in the planning and cutting stage, but once she sits down at the sewing machine, she digs her heels and works hard. She has great patience and follows instructions. Two things you need in sewing.
