Sometimes is so annoying being a percussionist. All of these people talk to you about how they play drumset and they're the shit. Does it ever occur to them that 1/1,000 of what percussion is is all they know? If you're a punk drummer...you are not good...and you don't know shit. The reason punk came along was so that non-musicians could pick up instruments and feel successful because it was easy to play. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with Punk music, because there are deffinantly songs that I enjoy, but I don't have any respect for them since I know better. To claim that you personally are the best drummer around is silly. Do people not realize that in Columbus alone there is Dr. V, Dave Holland, and other numerous drummers that could wipe the floor with not only them, but with alot of big names. Just because someone teaches orchestral percussion now doesn't mean that their specialty wasn't and still is drumset and that they didn't play with punk and rock bands before and let alone...jazz...the style that requires they highest amount of ability on set...which most punk rockers are ignorant enough to consider it "bad" since they don't have the mental capacity to understand it. Before someone says they are the best drummer around...they should make sure they don't play a show with a kevlar head on the snare drum with the snares tightened down so tight that it sounds like they are not there...maybe you think it sounds good, but to people who actually have the knowledge of the field...you sound like an unintelligent "punk" rock drummer. Grow up and learn more about the instruments that you claim to play. You should at least have that much respect for the area that you claim to be the best at.
