1) This debate turned out much better than I was being led to expect. I had heard ahead of time how it was supposed to be lame because the format was so limited, with no follow-up questions, no exchanges between the candidates, questions submitted in advance, no cameras on audience reaction, etc. I even heard a rumor that the candidates were being given the questions in advance. But in some ways it was actually more lively than the first.
2) On the other hand, Brokaw really was pretty lame as moderator.
3) The "my friends" thing was not working for McCain.
4) Okay, this is the thing that made my jaw drop. Did anyone else notice how McCain refused to shake Obama's hand at the end? I saw Obama reach out his hand-- McCain immediately drew his away in apparent disgust, so Obama shook Cindy McCain's hand instead. That's what it looked like to me, anyway. Man, I hope that little bit of videotape gets replayed and analyzed a lot. It sure didn't make McCain look good.
