For my own reference

I'm posting the recipe for Kentucky cream candy. One out of four of my batches last year actually turned out the right way, but I've had no greater success than 50%.

My aunt and her mother made this every year, and it's DIVINE. (The consistency of it crumbles in your mouth.) But it's HARD to make (even for someone who has made soap from scratch), and I don't know what the variable is. Maybe humidity? In any case, you can only do it in a cold-weather environment with low humidity.

I've tried buying it, but it's not the same. The store-bought (like the pound I bought from Reality Tuesday when I went to Kentucky a few years ago) was laden with preservatives to extend its shelf life/viability outside refrigeration and you could clearly taste it. I was so generally unimpressed with it that I left the container on the coffee shop's table.

My insurance agent is also from Kentucky, so when I actually succeeded at making one of my first batches, he was THRILLED to get some. I had asked initially, but he didn't remember it until he actually tried some.
