My mother had painted the ceiling of my bedroom as a series of circles interlinking and swirling around one another. I think it was some sort of expression as she had been forced to grow up in monotonous colour schemes that complied with how the upper echelons were supposed to live.
She had painted them in all sorts of rainbow colours, another expression I suppose. One thing no one knows about me is that I have never changed my hair to any colour but those she had painted and that picturing that ceiling calms me. Whether before exams or going into battle.
