Hello from the Artic North!

Dec 14, 2005 18:09

Yep thats right it is 15 degrees outside here in State College Pennsylvaina and a foot of snow. I never appreciated Florida weather soo much!

So I'm on this trip with Seth and his parents to cleanout/move and sell all his Grandpa's stuff since he can't live on his own anymore - its really sad he has late stage Alzheimers. Despite the grim misson, it's been really fun!

We stopped in NC to visit his Uncle and Grandpa before heading to PA. Hes a jolly man that laughs, smiles, and says jibberish that you can't understand. Seth's Mom gave a picture of his grandpa and grandma at 17 years old to his grandpa and he did not reconige that it was himself. Its really quite sad, but cool to meet him.

This was the first time I've ever seen snow! I made a snow angel, we tried to build a snowman but gave up after making the 1st lump, and have had many snow ball fights. Whats really funny is that Seth's dog (a hyper jack russel who has never been in snow) actually loves the snow and tries to escape out of the house any chance he gets just to frolic in the snow - its really funny and we have some awesome pictures.

Yesterday we walked to a war museum near his grandpas house and took some funny pictures in front of various tanks.

Today was cool, Seth's parents took us to one of the Amish markets and we bought some really good desserts. It was cool to see Amish people for the 1st time. Apparently, there are different churches of amish some more conservative than others and they distinguish themselves by their buggies. The black buggy is most conserverative and the yellow and white buggies are more liberal. And when I mean more liberal for example, the yellow buggy amish use a gas powered push-lawn mower instead of the black buggy amish which don't use a gas powered ones. Amish typically are not suppose to drive cars, however some liberal sects do, and still wear all the amish garb. Its pretty interesting, we learned all of this from a lady in the amish quilt shop we visited.

Currently, I'm in the public library since there is no computer at home and barely a tv. Seth and I have run around Penn State's campus too, which is cool - and definetly to cold to do at night like we did. Their student union was really cool since they had a large saltwater fish tank (and suprisingly no caulerpa).

Anyways, sorry this is very long . . . enjoy your nice toasty weather tomorrow while we get 3in of snow, plus sleet, and ice to top it off! We'll be loading furniture and packing all day to finish up. Hopefully we'll get back Saturday night or Sunday morning. I'm going to try and bring some snow back to show, miss you all!
