I had the gut instinct this afternoon after work to get in the Vibe and run up to the credit union outlet stop. As I was pulling in I was thinking about the early morning stop at the same place on Schoenherr and as I pulled I noticed a suspicious car in the lot and a pretty young gal waiting to go in and use the ATM. I kept an eye on the red car and the two people who just seemed to be sitting there watching the ATM door. The pretty gal turned out to be KT and we talked and I went inside with her and waited with her until we were both down with our morning banking and then I walked her to her car. I got back in mine and watched the suspicious car roll away. Later that night there was a report of people staking out ATMs at odd hours.
Today the old Spidey senses were humming in me. I get these when events are about to happen to me. It really came as no surprise then that the pretty young gal I saw coming out was KT. We stood and talked in a safer environment and then we split. Fifteen minutes later I'm looking at the Disney Classic Monopoly at Walden Books in Lakeside Mall when I glance up and wham! There's KT. We talk about coincidence and laugh it off andI tell her as I'm leaving I'm going to FYE. I no sooner turn around and there is Anne F., class of 95. It's a small world kind of moment and we laugh uneasily because the last time Anne I saw each other was a drunken night at the pub on Hall and Hayes. We make very small talk and I head off on my way. At FYE I am immediately drawn to the bargain DVD bin. As I'm picking up a used copy of Jailbait- the movie with the Max Headroom guy- I hear Cnutt. I turn around and he and KT are standing there. Apparently he, too, was in Walden Books- reading comics- when KT spotted him. I had hit the trifecta- KT-Cnutt-Anne F- all in the same store at the same time. Cnutt and KT and I stood around dramatically reading the tag lines off of the bargain DVD covers. The defining moment: The Cripple Masters.
Something about gray fall days and trees all lit up in various reds and oranges and yellows, the kind of colors a kindergarten teacher likes to find in a sweater. October always makes me think about college and the uncertainty the future held. I love October and the spidey senses. Neither let me down.
