the city ain't nothin but show
south by southwest is going on right now. the music portion starts tomorrow. tomorrow night there are some bands i want to see, and on thursday dr dog plays two times so i want to try and get in to both of those and go to some other shows. then at 1 am delta spirit plays and at 1:15am maps and atlases plays in the room next door at emos.
downtown is filled with people wearing their thousand dollar badges and gucci sunglasses. the streets are filled, the temperatures rose, and until today the sun was shining.
last weekend, a group of us went down the trail behind target that led into the greenbelt. the trail kept going downhill until we were suddenly at the river and there were big cliffs in front of us and nothing but trees all around us. there were no traces of the city except for some people.
we jumped in the river and climbed some rocks and at the end of the night some of the guys we were with started a fire. we had a good time and cleaned up all our beer bottles and the firepit at the end of the night and made sure not to leave any trash behind.
i have really enjoyed all my time in austin since we've moved here. a lot people here are full of passion and character and there's a lush music and art scene. but throw in the beauty of central texas and the greenbelt, and austin is groovy dude.
