SUMMARY: Hyukjae found the light that his life spark was waiting.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday night was spent almost entirely cleaning the mess in the kitchen they created, but with laughs, smiles and suddenly chase kisses they shared, the task became easier and the time went faster. So when the clock struck eleven o'clock both men returned to their respective home, a little hesitating for both parts, but a long sweet kiss and the promise to see each other the next day, as it's quickly becoming an habit, they bid their farewells and a kiss goodnight.

On Monday, in that all familiar table Donghae and Hyukjae sat to enjoy their breakfast, this time another specialty of Donghae’s, as always mixed with a bit of strawberries. It never fails to amaze Donghae the way Hyukjae eats everything he bakes. It gives him a big sense of proud, because that means he’s doing a good -excellent, Hyukjae would dare to say- in what he does and loves; but also because it is Hyukjae the person in question, the one person Donghae never thought would mean like he does to him in such a little amount of time. It is still odd for him to feel so attached to someone he barely knew a week ago, to feel already depended to said man, but he liked it, he liked the feeling of being along the older man. It was different, yes, but it was still magic, the sparking in his eyes everytime he saw Hyukjae or just even think in the man, because yes, Donghae had caught himself thinking every night since they became an item, or even a day before, or dreaming as well with Hyukjae.

Hyukjae could feel that burly spark within him too, not only when he eats the pastries but when a patch of skin comes in contact with Donghae’s, when he’s suddenly noticing the amazed stare Donghae gives him when he is not really watching, when the other kisses him, not only in the lips but everywhere, it is like a electric wave that surrounds his entire body, but he likes it, he loves the feeling, as he is still falling deeper for the other without a real reason.

Having breakfast like that, together and alone, felt just as right, no matter they’re the only ones there, everything seemed alright, sharing bites between each other and kisses, a little too much someone could say.

Donghae had to turn over the open sign on the door so anybody could enter and caught them in their intimate moments, making out.

Hyukjae whimpered when he felt the wet sensation in his jaw from Donghae’s lips on his skin. They were no more seated in normally, but their chairs were next to each other, bringing them very close that Donghae was practically over Hyukjae.

Donghae’s hands were one in Hyukjae’s waist caressing his sides while the other was holding him by the side of his face while his lips and tongue kept busy itself in the other’s jaw line.

“H-Hae…” Hyukjae called lowly.

The other hummed against the skin of his neck sending a buzzing feeling causing Hyukjae to shift in his place and bit his lip to stop the moans to come. He looked sideways at his watch noting that it was getting a little too late and that he should have been already in his way to work if he wanted to be on time.

“I gotta go now, Hae…”

Hyukjae wouldn’t mind the interaction with Donghae, but he had failed in his job the last two weeks and he wasn’t satisfied with the result in that, over the night before, and before he went to sleep, but after he thought of his handsome and perfect boyfriend, he realized that he had not advanced at all in his reports in the office. He realized it was very irresponsible of him and he wanted to change that. So being late another week was not a choice.

“Come on, Hyuk” Donghae breathed heavily biting softly the neck between his teeth. “You have time, it’s not like your workplace is not 5 minute away.”

Hyukjae sighed, one part of him wanted to just give in and have his way with Donghae, but the other part of him was reminding him how irresponsible he had been, and that he should start settling his life, personal and professional, alright.

Settling himself down have not been very easy, and he still needed to work on that, now with another person in his life, his daily life have changed drastically and suddenly he didn’t have the time to organize the matter.

“But I have to be there early, I have accumulated a lot of work last weeks and I can’t be wasting anymore time.” He blurted out, heaving a sigh at the end.

Donghae let go of him, causing the older to whimper inwardly, he sighed too and blinked taking a little more time than normal.

“Hyuk, you talk like you are just a common employee, when you are like the boss, the CEO. Don’t you th-”

“And that’s why I need to be the first to do my duty correctly.” Hyukjae interrupted. “But hey, what’s up with you today? I’m usually the clingy one, but you are now...like this.” He gave a teasing smile.

“Don’t know, just felt like it” Donghae shrugged, getting up and pulling the other along with him. “Anyways, let’s get you ready to work since you are a little grumpy today.”

Hyukjae scoffed, “Hae…”

But the younger just silence him with a peck on the lips. Their hands still linked.

“Hae, I’ve always been like this” Hyukjae said softly, feeling apologetic that his “grumpy” personality had just in someway got them into a little quarrel.

“I know, and we’ll work on that later. Now go.” He said opening the driver door of Hyukjae’s car for him to enter.

Hyukjae was sad, because he didn’t want to fight with Donghae, even if this argument was not really a fight, but his low-esteem was just low, and this was another shot to his thinking of Donghae getting bored of him. And he didn’t want that, he didn’t want to lose him, not when he truly believed he was the one, not now and not never.

Before climbing in the car he turned around so he was facing completely Donghae, put his hands in the other’s shoulders and leaned forward to give the man a short kiss, silently wishing he wouldn’t be pulled apart. It was short, Donghae being the first to broke the kiss.

“You are going to be late.” He reminded him.

“It doesn’t matter, I’m already late anyway.” He replied as he leaned once again towards those thin yet sweet lips that molded so ideally against his; his body relaxing after feeling the warm heat of Donghae’s arms enveloping him.

“Lee Hyukjae,”

Hyukjae looked up from the bunch of papers gathered on his desk at the voice, frowning at the odd sight of someone with the looks of Sungmin, but dressed and combed perfectly to be said man. Wearing a simple yet looking classy monochromatic suit stood Sungmin, holding a sleek clipboard between his fingers and wearing a pair of glasses -lensless by the way-, as he glared accusatory at Hyukjae.

“What the fuck is up with you?” Hyukjae asked.

Sungmin didn’t really reply to his question, instead he lifted a point finger at him.

“Lee Hyukjae, in this report I’m reading here,” Sungmin tapped his finger on the clipboard he was holding, “it says you have been arriving late at work the last days as well as getting off early that you should be, and I am not even mentioning that you did not come on Saturday.”

“What?” Questioned dumbly Hyukjae, mostly to himself because Sungmin kept talking about how he have been failing and not doing his work properly.

“Are you thinking that low of our company, do you think we will waive this behavior and irresponsibility for your part? No, you have to stay overtime so you can fulfill your duty and finish what you have not and should have to since a week ago, so now you've-”

“What?! You are not even in the payroll! What the fuck are you talking about?” Hyukjae interrupted, quite annoyed yet at the same time amused by the situation, because really, what the actual fuck was wrong with Sungmin? Since when said man seemed interested to work in the company and act as a boss, or supervisor to Hyukjae?, which should be the right way, but Sungmin was just as frivolous about everything.

“Don't raise your voice at your superiors!” Sungmin glared at him.

Hyukjae was about to pounce on Sungmin when his office’s door was opened a second time in the last 10 minutes, this time by Kyuhyun, with an annoyed frown as he gritted through closed lips.

“Sungmin”

The blond looked unaffected by the irritated Kyuhyun who was beside him, arms crossed on his chest as he kept sending daggers at his older brother.

“What are you doing now?”

Sungmin raised his eyebrows and scoffed before copying Kyuhyun’s posture and faced him.

“Working, can’t you see?”

“Annoying my employees is not working.”

“They are my employees too! I have the power to reprimand them if I feel like it!”

“Excuse me?” Hyukjae meddled in as he scoffed at Sungmin’s words, obviously being ignored by the two.

“You didn’t even go to university, what could you know?!”

There was a silent pause after that, and Hyukjae bit his lip as he eyed Sungmin, sensing the anger the older was feeling at the words; before Sungmin retorted and they began arguing again. Hyukjae sighed deeply.

“Can you continue with your marital quarrel outside my office, please?”

“We are brothers for fuck's sake!”

“Step brothers to be exact.” Sungmin corrected.

“Whatever, get out!”

Hyukjae shoved both men outside as he resumed his work in the papers on his desk, massaging his temple.

It didn’t take too long for his door to be opened again, Hyukjae groaned inwardly as Kyuhyun, now alone and more relaxed, entered the office and took a seat in front of Hyukjae.

“Excuse Sungmin, he’s being extra bitchy today because dad sort of forced him to start working as he should be, but you know him. So please, don't listen to him.”

“No, he’s right, Kyuhyun, I haven’t doing my work very well lately and I’m fixing it this week, don’t worry, I’ll stay overtime.” Hyukjae’s eyes never leaving the papers in his hands.

“What? No.” Kyuhyun interjected. “If it’s because what Sungmin said you know you can always ignore him, do not-”

“What Sungmin said? You know I don’t take anything serious coming from him, it is me. I already decided to stay even before Sungmin came here.”

“But you have another thing to do now, Hyuk, remember, you have to relax yourself and enjoy life, and that is not happening here, because in no way I’m allowing you to have dirty business with your boyfriend here.”

“Kyuhyun…”

“Whatever you want, I’m leaving.”

And with that Kyuhyun was gone leaving Hyukjae to deal with loads of important work to do.

Hyukjae took his phone out, opening the messenger app and typing in a message to Donghae, ‘I’m staying overtime today, will see you tomorrow’; when the instant reply of Donghae, a short okay, and nothing more arrived he put his phone on silent and threw it in the nearest drawer.

The following day even though he started his routine the same as the past days it was definitely different, yes, he went early to the patisserie to meet and have breakfast with Donghae, yet the feeling in the air was different, the atmosphere was tense, and the caresses and kisses minimal.

He didn’t eat with the same enthusiasm as always, and no, it was not because the delicious and very appealing looking food for the morning was not as good as it had always been, Hyukjae tried more than one time to stop the spark in him to diminish, and hence Donghae eyes weren’t as eager to look for him today.

He stayed there less than thirty minutes, and they bid their farewell with a short kiss and a meaningless goodbye.

To say Hyukjae wanted to cry was an understatement. But he still did not force himself to try.

When he thought hell couldn’t get hotter he got a call from his parents.

The reason behind the call was mostly because his parents got worried when they found out about he being absent on Saturday, an event that has ever happened, by the blabbermouth of Sungmin of course. He wanted to just hung up and get Sungmin strangled by his bare hands, but he couldn’t due the worried tone and sweet babbling of his mother in the other line of the phone.

He assured them it was nothing, that he just felt like taking a day off work, which only made them more dazed, and invited -that was a nice word to say it- him to have dinner with them on Friday night. Even though Hyukjae didn’t want to meet with his parents, not because he was an unfilial son or whatever, but because he didn’t want to receive the barrage of questions and curious stares from his parents, he didn’t want to deal with that too now; but in the end he couldn’t refuse the invitation and agreed, reluctantly, to go.

The whole week he couldn’t meet with Donghae in the afternoons, because he was staying overtime all week, and when he was done to go Donghae was no longer in the patisserie, and it wasn’t like he couldn’t ask him to wait for him, but he was too shy to ask for that; but even if he was busy getting his work in form he couldn’t help the sad thoughts that invaded his head then and there, he missed the other, and the short encounters every morning, the short kisses and the quick messages they shared were not enough for him, he was scared to lose him, but he just couldn’t run away and leave his work undone to climb in the arms of Donghae, at that moment it didn’t just feel right. So when he felt like missing the man in an extend he would text him and his heart would calm a little when Donghae would reply to him almost instantly, always, even if the texts were short, it meant a lot to him.

Friday came faster than he wanted to, and before he went out of his apartment that morning he made extra sure that anything was put in order in the place, as double checking the knobs of the  stove weren’t turned so the gas wouldn’t escape, that windows were closed, or water wasn’t dripping from the sink or the shower.

He knew that day was going to be long.

“Oh, Hyukjae, honey, you are so tall” His mom chirped as she opened the door of the house and took in sight Hyukjae, still dressed in his black suit but with his tie undone and his jacket suit off on his arm.

“Mom,” Hyukjae gritted through his teeth, “I’m the same as last time I came here, which was like last month?”

“Oh dear, but it just feels like I haven’t seen you in years, after being with you half of my life.” His mom sniffed.

“Mom, you are being dramatic. Where is dad?” Hyukjae asked as he went into the living room after having hung his jacket on the rack.

“Oh, he is in the kitchen preparing dinner. When he heard you were coming home tonight he went to the supermarket to buy lots of groceries to prepare a special dinner. You know since he now has a lot of free time he developed this liking for cooking.”

Hyukjae laughed as he imagined his dad in the supermarket getting excited as he walked around the aisles checking between fruits and vegetables to the variety of condiments.

“Yeah, I know.”

“Come on, let’s go and help him lay the table.”

“Hm, I’m already starving, it smells really good.”

Hyukjae moaned at the mix of smells on the way to the kitchen.

Dinner went as usual, the atmosphere was okay, and his parents were acting as always with him, that made him think that maybe they have forgotten about the main reason as why he went there, that was until his mom decided to bring it on when they were almost done with the food.

“Son, have you feeling sick as of late? Are you taking vitamins and eating properly? Is Ryeowook still cooking in the company?”

It made his stomach to already feel full, blocking his throat so any food can keep going down, with a lot of efforts he munched the food he had in his mouth and drank the full glass of water, he was not making time, no, of course not.

Ok, so here it comes.

“I am okay, mom. Please don’t worry.”

His dad wasn’t saying anything just staring at the both as he sipped his glass of wine. But his mom was really focused on getting information from him, because in no way it was normal for him to miss work.

“But Sungmin said you weren’t there all day and that you-”

“Mom, yeah, I didn’t go on Saturday, but I wasn’t sick.”

“For you to don’t attend work a day you must be.” His father said.

“Dad, not you.” He said, sighing and directed his gaze towards the old man.

“Kyuhyun forced me,” a little bit of lies was necessary sometimes, “like he forced me the day before to go clubbing, then he told me to take the day off, because he thought I really needed it.” He ended, and well, it wasn’t all lies, he reviewed his words in his mind, and yup, it sounded very credible. And  he didn’t feel it was the right moment to talk about Donghae with his parents, it was still too early, and heaven was not as calm as it should be.

His mother laughed as his father scoffed lightly, “that Kyuhyun boy, he knows what you really needs.” His mother looked at him with fondling eyes, biting her lower lip for a brief moment as he kept eyeing him, until he noted her eyes getting a bit glassy.

“Sometimes, I think it was really our fault for you to be like this, and I feel so sorry, honey.” She sniffed and sighed deeply.

“Mom…” Hyukjae frowned. What was wrong with being the way he was? He was happy, he was okay. So everything was alright.

“Why don’t I bring the dessert?” His father said as he massaged softly the shoulder of his wife and patted lightly Hyukjae’s back.

After dinner his mother went to water the plants in their garden as both men did the dishes and cleaned the kitchen and dining room. They shared little talks about the weather, the work in the office, tv and news, but his father didn’t ask him more nor mentioned about the previous subject. And during desert his mother dropped the matter too.

“Why don’t you stay for the weekend, son? I’m sure it will help your mother to regain her senses and calm down.” His father offered with a smile.

Hyukjae considered it too, and yes, it was probably a good idea, so without thinking twice he nodded as he washed the last knife.

After taking a shower and getting dressed in his favorite pajamas (from when he was just a freshly grown up), which he decided to conserve in his parents’ house, because how manly and mature it was to wear a long sleeved pajama with white cute stars printed over a gray plush fabric? But hey, it was the most comfy fabric in the world and it never failed to kept him warm at night when the a/c was on and in the higher level? or in the cold of winter nights? So after being soothed clothed he went to check his phone only to find a notification of a new unread message, he slided his finger over the screen and read the message, what are you doing (:? He smiled when he saw the sender id, Donghae, and decided to give him a call instead.

When the first ringing tone was heard through the speaker pressed against his ear his heart started to thump faster, it was something that he just couldn’t help it, it was like the excitement that you feel when you are a teenager waiting for your crush to pick up the phone just to hung up immediately after you hear a voice in the other side of the line. But Hyukjae didn’t have that when he was a teenager.

“Hey,” came the husky voice from the other side of the phone. “How are you doing?”

“I just had dinner with my parents,” Hyukjae replied as he threw himself in bed.

“Oh, are you busy right now?”

“Not really, I’m laying in bed.”

“Can I pick you up in fifteen? I wanna see you.”

Hyukjae’s heart pace increased, feeling all kind of flying insects inside his stomach, me too; but then he remembered he was in his parents’ house and he couldn’t really go out, he didn’t want another scene as the one they had over dinner, so he grunted and cried in frustration.

“What's wrong, babe?” Donghae asked after hearing the groans from the other. Hyukjae didn’t know what to do with the red hue that started rising in his cheeks at the sound of the nickname, because Hyukjae was a hopeless romantic like that.

“I am at my parents’,” he grunted.

“Oh,”  he heard the disappointment in the sudden change of tone in his voice, and he wanted to cry, because he couldn’t meet with him properly the entire week and now that he had the chance he just could not.

“I’m staying the whole weekend.” He groaned again through gritted teeth, no caring in showing his distress in his voice.

“It is okay, don’t worry, enjoy your weekend with your parents. I’ll see you on Monday, right?”

Hyukjae could sense the smile in the other voice, and it was like a yawn being contagious because a smile was plastered in his own face.

“Yes, on monday.”

Donghae laughed airily, “ok, then. Goodnight.”

“Goodnight, Hae. I miss you.”

“Me too.”

And with that they ended the call leaving an over-frustrated Hyukjae whining on bed.
