Hello, welcome to NOT an update for Oceanus. Though I think it may become a promise for another Not-NaNo. I just don't know which story I'll be doing my Not-NaNo for... Perhaps you ladies can help me out with that.
So, first, let's clear the air: Fanfics. Oceanus and A'Nirih. Have I updated them recently? No. Have I abandoned them? Not neccessarily. I'm thinking of abandoning A'Nirih, but every time I think that I add another three pargraphs to it, so we'll see. I've defniately not abandoned Oceanus, but I am thinking about removing it from ff.net, at least until it is finished and edited. But that might be an ff.net no-no, esspecially since I don't want to alienate my followers and anyone who has Oceanus on alert.
So those fics are still kinda on hiatus. But I get new ideas and new inspiration fro them all the time, it just rarely comes in the right place of the story, so I can't exactly 'update.' Which is just as frustrating to me as it might be fore my readers.
Anyway, on to the more pertinant things: my original fiction! Wooo! Have I actually writen any of it? No. But I have OUTLINED a lot of it. Character sketches, plot synopses, setting descriptions, that kind of stuff. And believe me, having ideas after a LONG stretch of writer's blog between my graduation and recently, even the outlines are like liquid gold for me.
The two actual stories I'm thinking about writing are Citizen and Sanguinarian. Citizen is about a young woman who lives in a world where superheroes are real. The government in her world has bent over backwards to accomadate the superheroes, hoping to keep them from becoming dagerous villains, but in doing so, they have stepped on the rights of normal people, causing undercurrents of unrest. The young woman, identified as Citizen by the news and most people who meet her, stands up to a supervillain to save a hero, and ends up causing a massive wave of political reform; the moral of the story essentially being that if you don't speak up for your rights, they will be taken away from you. Villains, upset heroes, and the government, are all trying to get her to shut up (by any means necessary) because they don't want the status quo to change.
Sanguinarian, on the other hand, is a much less involved story. Basically, the main character, Aaron, was born in England and now lives as a prospecter in a steampunk-version of the Old West. He is a pretty down to earth guy, except for that whole 'being-possessed-by-a-demon' thing. When he was a boy, he was used as a conduit for unleashing a demon upon the world, but his parents interrupted the ceremony in just the knick of time. However, now, anytime his blood meets fire, the demon's power can be released. He uses his powers to help people as best he can, but there are forces out there who want him dead- either to destroy the demon or to release it upon the world at large. Unlike Citizen, which would be contained within a single story arc, Sanguinarian would be a continuing story, allowing for changing characters and setting.
But the project at the forefront of my mind is an idea I've been working on for an RPG called Time Immemorial. While it possesses mythic themes, with the ability to summon the power of the gods and fight or deal with the monsters of myth, your character's goal would be to try and mold the world to their own designs. You could become the ruler of the known world by seeking divine favor, earning money, manipulating the political scene, and winning battles and wars. All I know is that it would require a lot of research and writing, as well as figuring out the game mechanics so that people can actually play it... >_>
Well, I don't know if I'll get any work done on any of these stories, but knowing that I have these ideas is a huge relief.
