Playing the "Interests Game" with phrawzty. If you want to play along, comment and I'll pick 7 of your interests for you to write about, then you can post with these instructions on your LJ to keep spreading the fun.

The seven selected interests are: akira kurosawa, drop bass network, duality, hangars liquides, severed heads, terror, and wagon repair.

Akira Kurosawa: His samurai films helped to reinvent both the western genre (The Magnificent Seven and A Fistful Of Dollars are round-eye remakes of his films) and science-fiction (the premise of Star Wars is lifted from The Hidden Fortress)... His reworkings of Shakespeare are brilliant (Throne Of Blood/Macbeth, Ran/King Lear)... and Runaway Train was based on one of his screenplays!

Drop Bass Network: Kurt and his crew brought their whole show up to Winnipeg in early '94 and left a legacy of hardcore in their wake. Shortly after their bRave New Assembly event the warehouse scene sprung up and for a few years, the frozen tundra of Winnipeg enjoyed one of the most vibrant electronic scenes on the continent. It might have happened anyways - but I guarantee it would have been much different. In addition to a family of record labels DBN also put together some of the sickest shows that North America has ever seen. It was an honour to play the mainstage at Furthur in '98

duality: Always remember that the sword can cut you both ways. There are two sides to everything. Nothing is as simple as it appears on the surface. Look closer. Investigate.

Hangars Liquides: The single best experimental electronic label in the history of the world.

Severed Heads: Tom Ellard and bunch of nutters put out some music. The stuff they were doing twenty years ago still sounds miles beyond a lot of what comes out today. Goodbye Tonsils, Dead Eyes Opened... fucking essential stuff.

Terror: "Horror and moral terror are your friends. If they are not then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies."

Wagon Repair: Fantastic Canadian label that has put out some fun records by some great people (including Mike Shannon and Colin The Mole!)... Check 'em out!!!
