Borborygmi

May 25, 2005 12:34

I called in response to a help wanted ad in the Tribune that needed someone to assist a grad student with "typing a thesis, doing online searches, etc." Evidently I met all of her qualifications, so I'm supposed to get called back sometime in the next couple of months. Sooner would be nice.

Yesterday the ringing phone woke me at about 9, and I was shocked to hear someone asking for me. Evidently Mary Greeley is in need of my blood type, and now I have to decide if I really want to give blood. Upsides: it is the good thing to do, I will be helping save lives, etc. Downsides: it would rather crimp my active lifestyle for a while, riding my bike would be ill-advised (causing me to lose primary transportation), and the last time I gave blood I almost passed out/got really sick. But I didn't, so perhaps I'll go give some anyway.

Yesterday I played frisbee for about an hour and a half, then biked to Gayle's and ran with her, resulting in lots of soreness today. Unfortunately, I also slept in until noon, and I'm starting to actually miss mornings. I have about four hours until I work for four hours, and then it'll be 9:00 already. I guess if I wasn't out so late, I could sleep earlier and get up at a reasonable time, but that isn't a change I really want to make. And I guess I'm kind of being bitchy. Sorry about that. In an attempt to salvage a boring post, something I've been meaning to do anyway:

Cafe Diem vs. Stomping Grounds

---CD---
Delicious scones
Relatively inexpensive soup
Excellent chai (or so I am told, not much of a fan myself)
Very open, spacious feel inside
Downtown location
Good game selection, including Candyland
Usually not too crowded

---SG---
Splendid loose leaf tea selection
Tea sets, meaning infinite fun
Do-Biz cookies and yummy muffins
Amazing (though expensive) Chicken Pesto sandwich
Campus location easily accessible from dorms
Double-punch Mondays
Local artists' work on display
Lots of indoor seating, and even more outdoors
Music known to include the Arcade Fire, Wilco, Sufjan Stevens, etc.

My preference: Stomping Grounds, though Cafe Diem is better for food. Stomping Grounds is definitely more conducive to large groups, however. Other people's input?

I am starving.
