a while ago i ordered from amazon the complete fairy tales of oscar wilde, for two pounds. i know them all from when i was a child, i remember reading them in the bathroom in my room, where i had my bookshelves. i would do it sitting on the toilet, of course, which right now seems kind of funny. the happy prince and the nightingale and the rose were my favourites, and i would read them and cry, cry and cry. they really made me cry. now reading them again, they're still wonderful stories, but for the first time i understand the irony behind them - and although they're still sad, they lost a bit of romance. but in my adult-ish head they have gained some of the witty sense of humour so typical of oscar wilde, which is still somewhat magical. i have to get them in portuguese, for my niece.

i bet this sounds a little silly for all the english folks who have read these about a thousand times.
