Minnesota is number 12

So for those of you who are not aware the governor of Minnesota signed a bill today that makes it legal for same sex couple to get married in Minnesota. (it had already passed through the House and the Senate) And I was there on the State Capital grounds to hear about it.
(I would say see it but I was not in view of the podium, I just mainly saw crowds and crowds of people and rainbows. So many rainbows)

Now the actual bill signing was rather anti-climactic and I didn't even realize it had happened because I was talking to my friend about nerdy things like Doctor Who. Also it was very, very hot and we were not in the shade. The important part was not so much the bill signing, though that was nice. What was really cool was the people. I saw so many adorable gay couples and took pictures of a couple of them in front of the Capital. For a little bit I was sitting on top of a marble pillar with a giant rainbow flag behind me, a friendly gay guy next to me who was handing out mints so people would have fresh breath if they wanted to kiss somebody, an adorable gay couple who patted me on the knee when I asked if they had enough room, another pair of girls, one of which was squeezed onto the pillar with me and was worried about her phone. Then the police came along and told us we had to get down from there which we very slowly did.
I saw couple holding hands, wearing rainbow flags, talking happily, cheering loudly, and just standing around waiting for stuff to happen. It was just really nice to see everyone gathered together all excited about the same thing. Everyone was really friendly and afterwards there was a parade which I only caught a glimpse of. (I ran off to have ice cream with friends because it was hot, did I mention that.)
I am super happy for all the people that voted for that bill to pass and the governor for signing it. I just want to go up to everyone and be all "did you know? did you hear? Minnesota passed the same sex marriage bill. This is the best day ever."

Now. I realize that just because I can get married to whoever I want doesn't mean that suddenly everyone will be okay with the people of the rainbow spectrum, I realize that there bill passed 37-30 in the Senate and the Marriage Amendment was turned down because slightly more then 50% of Minnesotans voted against it. BUT. It is a step in the right direction, and even if some people still get grumpy about it the state recognizes the Rainbow People (or you know, most of them we are working on you trans* people) and that is something and I really hope that this causes dialogues but who knows maybe it will just mean a lot of people get married and that is definitely okay too.
