A Non-Update Update

It has been a while since my last post and though I feel guilty about it, I would probably feel equally guilty writing something un-substantive. Or, at least, that is how I rationalize the effects of procrastination and a mildly brisk lifestyle.

Going way, way back... there was the annual trip into the Boundary Waters. It is always fun, and stressful... but mostly fun. The weather plays a large factor since even our best preparations can only mitigate Mother Nature should she choose to be savage. As it turns out, She was beneficent, if a tad unpredictable. Probably the most uncharacteristic aspect of our trip was that we were actually where the fish were... and they were biting. It made for a grand excursion, one that will be hard to top.

Another grand excursion was the group's trip down to Eagle Cliff. It is just south of Rochester and quite remote. This was a departure from our normal white water destination. Though it had rained heavily up onto our arrival, it was pretty affable weather. The unfortunate consequence was that the folks renting canoes were not apt to let us take out boats with the river up from the earlier torrents. We made do by visiting some nearby caves as well as biking to a small town which had a nationally acclaimed pie shop. I had apple, and it was D-licious.

As the time machine wends on, I find myself back at the fourth. My father and my stepmother usually make a yearly visit and chose this holiday as the lynch-pin. It is always good to see them. We spent most of our time up at Da Cabin where the two of them spent most of their time fishing.

Somewhere in there, I was elected to a second term as President of my Division of the USFA. Hopefully the year under my belt will help run the fencing tournaments more smoothly and adequately host the Sectional Championship now less than a year away. Who knows, if I play my cards right, I might even find a way to compete this year as well.

Bass lessons are going, well, they are going. While the progress is there, it has been difficult to find time to practice. At times, I feel that I may be holding back my instructor, who remains patient and helpful. Yet I remind myself that if it were easy, everyone would do it.

I have a couple of other things to share, but I intend to put them in impending posts.
