Over the past couple of weeks, I have stirred up how I talk to people. Sometimes it is important to kick the anthill because you never know what sort of improvements may occur. This is something that can be very difficult for me at times because I can be rather inert when my needs are met.

If you really don't want to be contacted at a given time, you can just set the phone not to ring. That's what voice mail is for, anyway. I find that the conveniences of the cellphone (not just for coordination and all, but just things like not having to worry about calling long-distance) really outweigh the downsides.
I have thought about giving up my land line for about a year now -- mostly because I think the only calls I've received in the last year have either been 1) for somebody else who used to have the phone number 2) from telemarketers or recruiters 3) from people ringing the front door of my apartment building because they want to come in.
I can't help but think there's a way to just ditch the land line and either get the front door hooked up to my cell phone to buzz folks in, or work out some system for people to inform me when they arrive at the building so I can run downstairs and let them in. Somehow I think a big rope pulley system off my balcony would be overkill, but amusing.
