Unfortunately I shall be on a four way dance in Germany. The following week however I'm sure I'll be in full effect.
Well back in Daresbury.
And Ohhhhhhh what a welcome.
I've just had THE worst meal i have ever tasted and by Daresbury standards that's going some.
Starter: Creme de Barry soup. Yep alarm bells already start ringing, especially as I generally don't have the soup unless there's no other choice. The name conjures up all sorts of imagery of an eccentric chef creating his own crazy concoctions of soup or the darker side. And quite frankly the only way I could tell that this didn't truly come from dear old Barry's loins was the sheer quantity of soup available. MMMM Cream and salt, what a winning combination.
Main: Paella with Boiled potatoes and carrots. Paella last time i checked was a mixture of seafood (mussels and prawns - check just), chicken (nope), sausage (nope), some veg (peas, onions etc - nope not one), rice (yep), herbs and spices (nope not that i could taste, somehow they'd managed to impart some yellow colouring into the rice but failed to transfer any flavour along with it). Veg is always quite dodgy at Daresbury baby carrots which quite possibly came from a tin and the remarkable way they can boil potatoes so that they come out incredibly sweet at the end it was a choice between them or some rancid looking chips.
Dessert: Plain sponge. It was actually the highlight. However the name says it all. All that is needed is some lemon zest here or a bit of jam on top and the dessert is suddenly far more appealing. Why serve up such unexciting fare when what preceeds it is so vile. At least give people something to look forward to!
And I've got 2 weeks of this. Oh God.
