Matthew Shepard : December 1, 1976 - October 12, 1998
Ten years ago today Matthew Shepard departed this world due to ignorant and homophobic assholes. He was tied to a fence, beaten and left to die on October 7, 1998. He was in a coma until October 12, 1998. I was just a kid when this happened. All my parents allowed me to know was that some kid got killed because he was gay. They didn't care about him. It wasn't important. He was just some "fag" that got murdered. I didn't know the details until i was a teenager. It breaks my heart to know how badly this guy suffered out there on that fence. Since he was killed it hasn't stopped people from killing more GLBTQ people. Living in the South it scares me. There are too many fucking demented people in this world. Matthews mother has done so much since he was murdered and she is a true trooper. It's a shame that events like Matthews death is what opens peoples eyes. I've thought about his death all this month as I usually do every year and it brings me to tears. As I sit and type this I'm controlling the tears because 1. I don't cry in front of people ..even more so guys like Lizs stepdad and 2. I don't feel like explaining why I'm doing such. There is an article in our news paper today about Matthew.
