My you-know-thats-right (Shawn'n'Gus ficathon) prompts

Dec 31, 2009 20:20

Here's my prompts for
you_know_thats_right. The fest is also going to open up unused prompts for free-for-all writing after the stories from this round are posted. I've got permission to post these, so I am. I'm not really sure what I expect you to do with *shrugs*, eh, whatever. Read if you wish, don't read if you don't wish.

Prompts: (in no particular order!)

1) Can be gen or ship: Gus and Shawn are best friends, right? But Gus, on first blush, seems much too uptight to fit with Shawn. But we know that Gus /does/ fit with Shawn, and not even reluctantly. So write me a story where we see Gus and Shawn fitting well together.

2) When I saw the first episode of this past season (where Shawn takes Gus on what he'd planned as a romantic weekend with Abigail), I half-thought that it might end with Shawn proposing. (Look, I was tired and my brain was stuck in fannish mode. *sigh*) And this got me thinking about how Shawn might propose to Gus. I'm convinced it wouldn't be the standard stereotypical American proposal of the sort that's seen in mass media as the ideal. I'm sure it would be weird &/ long and involved &/ heartfelt and sudden and awkward &/ passed off as a joke but Gus could tell that it was real (or maybe it wasn't quite intended as real but Gus took it there and then Shawn followed) &/ so on and so forth. I'd love to see your take on that!

3) (Gen or Ship): Shawn and Gus were separated when Shawn did his 'I've gone romping about the world' thing. But they were still friends. I'd love to see how they influenced each other's lives during that time period.

Things I like: The story you'll write :) But if you want more specifics: I love the zany-ness of the show and would love to see that reflected/preserved in the fic. I am a big fan of crack!fic and silliness in general, so you can go as far in that direction as you wish (or not at all). Happy endings (with or without drama/tension/etc on the way) are preferred. I am fine with any level of any kink, so long as you show the characters clearly enjoying it (with the exception of humiliation, which I am not a fan of at all). I do not require absolute adherence to canon for facts but I do appreciate good character voice and characterisation. Poly fic is fine, if you can find a way to work it into one of these prompts. I enjoy (but by no means require) experimental or unusual styles and storytelling. I tend to think of this show mostly in its canon setting, but if you want to go AU, that's fine too.

Please don't include:
Humiliation as a sexual kink (and I'm not a big fan of it in a non-sexual way either), infidelity/cheating, character-bashing. Out-of-character characters without a justification for why they are the way that they are. Zombies.

Level of explicitness you're comfortable reading/writing: Reading-- anything (would prefer things to be plot-driven, so would rather have a plotty NC17 to a PWP.) Writing-- I'm more comfortable with the 'fade to black', so I suppose anything from G to soft-R.
