New rec set up and I blather on about it

Dec 27, 2009 17:50

A new policy update: I shall mention it here whenever I update my recs comm. So if you're watching me both places you can feel free to drop one, if you wish. This is mostly because I like talking (or venting maybe *grins*) about the lists but it feels a bit awkward to do it so in the recs post.

And in the spirit of that, [ I've got a new rec post up]. It's a collection of things I wouldn't quite normally rec but that I've been thinking about maybe reccing. So there's profic, audiobooks of profic, links to discussions of two of the fannishly-awesome episodes of TV ever (imo), meta of not-fannish things, and a few fannish fests.

I'm always iffy on reccing profic because I don't want people to go out and spend money on my say-so only to find that it isn't something they like. I figure that with fanfic, the most you've wasted is your time, and you'll've only wasted enough of that which you can afford. But if the profic's available online for free then I don't have to feel any monetary worry!

Those of you who like apocafic might want to give my rec of Redliners a look-- strictly speaking the story might not be apocafic but I like it a similar way to the apocafic stories I like. (If that made sense.)

Also, on my rec set I ask the question of what are the best episodes (or chapters, I suppose, or other smaller increments of canon) from the point of view of a fan. (I mentioned 'Amok Time' from ST:TOS and the Sherlock Holmes ep with babies and Watson punching in my recs) Let's keep the discussion at the recs page for preference, but I'd love to hear what you have to say. (I think I might have to include the Buffy musical episode-- I think I have a fondness for songs which mention mustard :P )

I feel a bit badly for spamming everyone's flists right now, but I'm just happy that my brain is coming back from its x.x state (I pushed myself a bit hard in the lead-up to the holidays, harder than I realised at the time). I'm hoping to get some more meta up before I have to go back to work. Or before my current story grabs my hands and takes over (Dear Parker, I don't have the knowledge to write the details you want me to! Please let me figure out how to do that before you make me go back to the story! Pleadingly yours, Fish). But I figure that these posts will still be here when you return to your flists.

It's interesting because I'm much more interested in writing right now than reading. (That's a sentence I thought I'd never write two years ago!) Which, I suppose, is useful for me to not add to the AOOO server load. And when I do feel like reading atm, I really want it on paper. So I'll curl up with a book on the couch rather than fanfic. So you all can keep up with the Yuletide recs and I'll deal with them later :)

Oh! Also, I have one more DW invite, does anyone want it?
