T minus three days and counting...
Only three days until I leave for Papua New Guinea!!!
Itinery
- Arrive in Brisbane, Aus. One day/night at the Carlton Crest Hotel
- Leave the next morning for PNG. 7 days/nights at Tawali Resort (warning kaylaraine there are some fish pictures behind that link ;-) in Milne Bay. With unlimited scuba diving and maybe some hikes into the local rainforests and 'skull caves'
- Hop on a plane and spend a day in the PNG capital of Port Moresby
- Hop on a plane up to Eastern Highlands village of Goroka for two days of the tribal sing-sing. From what I hear we'll be about 30 white people in a gathering of 50,000+ tribesmen, many of whom have never seen white people. This is in an area that was thought to be uninhabited until the 1930s.
Here's a quote from someone who's been there: "we were two of about 10 white people at the fair which in PNG tends you get you noticed. people regularly call out 'hey white man' to you as you walk down the street, not in a nasty way, more of an exclaimation - just like i'd probably shout out 'big grey elephat' if i saw one walking down the street in dublin"
- Back to Brisbane for a day and then home
