Zimtsterne and Sauerkraut...

Jun 10, 2010 22:21

end of year celebrations in 3rd grade seem to involve international foods....which placed me at a grocery store, counting off continents and desperately trying to nail the geography questions.

in the end, we cooked up bratwurst (Nordhessische Bratwurst - we *think* based on the spices, the grilling preparation, and the pairing with mustard), bagged some canned sauerkraut (never liked it, never will), and made some Zimtsterne.

ZIMTSTERNE

Zimt = cinnamon
Sterne = stars

Cute little star cookies flavored with lemon, nutmeg, cinnamon, and walnuts. Coated with an egg wash (red this time, to represent the red in the German flag). Tasty little cookies (and they almost looked right).

I was asked..."If all children are brothers and sisters to each other in the eye's of God, then what are the parents? Aunts and Uncles to each other? Grandparents?"

any guesses as to what I answered?

cooking, secular humanism, bbbs
