Oh, Damon. Damon, Damon, Damon. You are one beautiful mess.

My general reaction to the S2 premiere of Vampire Diaries:

HOLY CRAP.

Yes, I realize that this was also my reaction to the S1 finale, but, you know, HOLY HOLY CRAP, I FREAKING LOVE THIS SHOW.

DAMON KILLED JEREMY. HE FREAKING KILLED HIM. IN FRONT OF ELENA. HOLY... WHAT THE... DAMN IT, DAMON, SHE WILL NEVER LOVE YOU NOW. Of course, he figured it was a lost cause anyway, hence the angry snapping of Jeremy's neck, BUT STILL, HOLY CRAP. And on top of that was the forced kiss. I just... OH, DAMON. He not only ruined any minuscule romantic chances with her, but he totally desecrated their friendship. He had one friend left in the entire world, one person who truly cared about him, and HE FREAKING KILLED HER BROTHER. I'd like to believe that he saw the ring, but I really don't think he did. He was out to hurt Elena in that moment and prove to her that he didn't care about anything. GOD, STUPID KATHERINE AND HER STUPID COMMENT. Why why WHY did Damon listen to her? Does he actually think that Katherine was in love with Stefan? Like, for real? Pretty sure she just said the thing that she knew would hurt him the most. Although I did kind of get the vibe that Damon had always been her plaything while she was more serious about Stefan.

Speaking of Katherine/Stefan, HOLY HELL ARE THEY HOT. Love the power dynamics in that relationship. Damon/Katherine, however, was so completely in Katherine's hands that it was kind of sad. You just really feel how at her mercy Damon is, and how much it kills him, and how much he so desperately wants her to love him, how much he wants the last 145 years to actually mean something. AND THEN SHE BREAKS HIS HEART IN THE WORST WAY POSSIBLE. And of course, of course Elena had to end up saying almost the exact same thing to him when he tried to tell her that there was something between them, but where Katherine showed him nothing but coldness, Elena wanted him to know that she did care about him, just not in the way he wanted, AND THEN HE FREAKING KILLED HER FREAKING BROTHER, because he was powerless in the way of hurting Katherine, but oh can he hurt Elena, and so he does, and it's devastating. *sigh* The sad part is that I was totally hurting for him in that scene where he throws the glass into the fireplace, AFTER HE HAD JUST FREAKING KILLED ELENA'S FREAKING BROTHER. Oh, Damon, I don't know how you make me sympathize with you even when you do evil things.

Even though Damon killing Jeremy made me gasp the loudest, what surprised me the most during this ep was the very ending. CAROLINE IS GOING TO BE A VAMPIRE NOW, ISN'T SHE? I just was not expecting that at all. I am wicked curious to see how that plays out.

The short version of my reactions:

Damon/Elena = HEARTBREAK! (oh, I forgot to mention the bit where Elena confronts him about the kiss and as he's walking away she says, "I'm not shocked that you wanted to kiss me. I'm shocked that you thought I'd want to kiss you," and he gets this look that is so unbearably heartbreaking and he says, "Now I'm hurt." SO DAMN BEAUTIFUL)

Stefan/Elena = Awwwwwwwwww.

Stefan/Katherine = HOLY HELL THEY ARE HOT

Damon/Katherine = *head shake*

Damon/Stefan = Stay strong, fellas!

I also watched Nikita tonight, and I was not wrong about it being wickedly badass. The pilot overdid it with the exposition, though, which I get, since it had to explain everything, but I'm hoping that future eps do more showing than telling. The dialog was a bit corny, too, but again, that can improve as the show goes on. I loved the action, loved the twists, I found the plot intriguing, it has believably kickass female heroes, and the characters have potential to be engaging, so, I'll probably keep watching. At least until The Office comes back.
