PSYCH! OMG, PSYCH. I JUST CAN'T QUIT YOU. Awesome finale. For once the serious bits actually entertained me (although, you know, Shawn still sucks at being angsty, but everyone else was awesome). I kind of hated Yang during the season 3 finale, but she was so, so wonderful in this ep. In fact, I hated just about everything about the season 3 finale, whereas this one totally kicked ass. Especially two very specific moments, and if you can't guess which two moments, then clearly you don't know me at all.
LASSITER DEFYING THE RULES TO SAVE HIS LADY LOVE PARTNER! There was no hesitation, not even for a moment did he think to leave it to Shawn even though Yin was all "You have to choose between the two," in that raspy voice. And I was so flippin' happy about this, because the second this scenario came up, I actually shouted at my computer "BUT JULIET HAS LASSITER! ABIGAIL ONLY HAS SHAWN!" So I am proud of the show totally acknowledging this fact, even to the point that JULIET CRIED IN LASSITER'S ARMS while Shawn was off being angsty. Time and time again the show proves that Juliet can count on Lassiter where she can't count on Shawn. OH GOD, THE LASSITER/JULIET WAS SO, SO BEAUTIFUL.
Unfortunately, the show conveniently closed the Shawn/Abigail relationship, which, I get why she's leaving him for good, it's just that her chemistry with Shawn is SO MUCH BETTER than his chemistry with Juliet, and dag nab it, if Shawn has to settle down with someone that's not Gus, then I wanted it to be Abigail.
Am I the only one who thought for awhile there that Yin was going to turn out to be Buzz? Especially when he tilted his head all creepily. But then... he collapsed, and I got scared that he was dead. But he wasn't. So, luckily, Buzz is still alive and a good guy. But I was scared there for a minute that it was him.
MARY! Oh, Mary. He was so, so wonderful, and now he's gone forever. *sniff* And now I feel like watching all the McPoyle eps of It's Always Sunny. It is weird how freakishly attracted I am to that dude. Like, seriously, I should not find him appealing. At all. He always plays dudes that are totally creepy. But they're charmingly creepy!
The ending baffled me. I am not quite sure what was going on there. At first I thought the little boy in the picture was Yin, but then the closeup showed that it was young Shawn posing with Yang. That... was freaky. I was so hoping they'd reveal Yin's face even though I know that they aren't concluding this until season 5's finale, but still. I thought maybe they'd show him if he's not anyone we've met yet.
LASSITER/JULIET, OMG. SO BEAUTIFUL.
Ugly Betty was pretty lackluster tonight (I am lucky that I didn't fall asleep). It's only got, what, 5 episodes left? And they give us that? Ugh. This show has a bad habit of completely pooping out at the end of its seasons, but I was hoping they'd go out with a bang this time since it's their last season. I did love that Daniel/Betty moment in the beginning though. They are always lovely when they're awkward around each other. I am still hating this Daniel/Amanda nonsense, though. Way to regress them both, show! If they become a legit romance, I will puke. Just... no. No way. I don't think I will ever forgive him for his treatment of Amanda in the past enough to accept them as a legitimate love story. I just can't, and if the show decides to go there, I will be livid. Livid! Because hey, even though he's actually trying to treat her as a person now, he still kind of only sees her as a sex object. And Daniel calling her instead of Betty during his family drama just felt wrong. ON WHAT PLANET DOES HE NOT LOOK TO BETTY FOR CONSOLATION? Yeah, Betty's not his assistant anymore, but is she even his friend anymore? Does he even bother confiding in Betty anymore? Or are we just supposed to assume that the entirety of their friendship now takes place offscreen? Because that's just not good enough for me. If I don't see them being friends, then I am left wondering what the heck they are to each other. They've gone from being inseparable to being mere acquaintances, and I think this kills me way more than the fact that they never got to have their love story. And, to be honest, I can't find the strength to care about Betty's life when she is not interacting with Daniel. I've never cared for her personal life plots unless they involved Daniel in some way, and now even her work plots don't involve him (except for the one where he belittled her accomplishments). It's frustrating! The show feels so aimless when Daniel and Betty are leading completely separate lives from each other. I did love the Suarezes in this ep, though (minus Betty. She is getting back to the point where she's annoying me). And Wilhelmina was pretty awesome. But the ep as a whole was so, so boring.
Modern Family was hilarious as usual. PHIL! CAM AND MITCHELL RE-ENACTING A FAUX PAS! ♥ Oh, I love this show. It never fails to bring me glee.
The Middle! Also hilarious, but not at the top of its game tonight (actually, neither was Modern Family, but I enjoyed Modern Family more than I enjoyed The Middle).
Human Target. DEAR GOD, WHY IS EVERYTHING ON ON WEDNESDAYS? Anyway, Human Target was also not at the top of its game tonight. I don't know, dudes, somehow, some way, Psych beat out all these shows tonight in the awesomeness department. I did enjoy this episode though, just... it wasn't as quippy as it usually is? Or... something. I don't know. OH, I TOTALLY KNOW. THERE WAS NO KUNG FU! WHAT IS THIS SHOW WITHOUT ITS KUNG FU? A bunch of explosions, that's what. But Chance was his totally dreamy self. And Winston was his delightfully grumpy, put-upon self, and Guerrero was Guerrero. During the plane scene, I totally thought that Guerrero was going to confess his love to Winston. All throughout Winston's tirade I was waiting for him to say something like, "Jeez, I was just going to tell you that I love you, dude, but forget it."
CHRISTOPH WALTZ. He was on Jimmy Kimmel again tonight, and the video clip of his method acting was so, so brilliant. Who knew that the word "dill pickle" could evoke so much emotion? Oh man, I love him. Cutest man in the world. Pretty much every time they showed Christoph I kept saying (out loud, to no one) "Oh my god, he's so cute! Soooooo cuuuuuute! So cute!" I can't help it, he's really cute! And apparently he was on Jay Leno sometime this week, and I know that I vowed to not watch Jay again (although, I rarely watched him in the first place, so it's not like that was some grand gesture of defyment on my part), but it was Christoph. And baby animals!
How am I supposed to resist that? I mean, honestly. Also, Jay was a much better interviewer than Letterman was. Dear god, Letterman was such a dick. Jay actually bothered to, you know, learn where Christoph came from. ALSO, CHRISTOPH WAS EXCITED ABOUT MEETING ROBIN WILLIAMS. CLEARLY I WAS MEANT TO FALL IN LOVE WITH THIS MAN. And he loves Morgan Freeman! He wants to give him a big hug every time he sees him! Is that not the most adorable thing ever? And he mentioned Jodie Foster, too. I love his taste so very much. His Jimmy Kimmel interview was not as good, sadly. Jay definitely conducted the best interview out of all the late night hosts. And I have yet to see Christoph's appearance on Oprah. I didn't even know that he had been on Oprah! Man. I've been missing all of Christoph's appearances. Thank god for the internet.
Also, yesterday I watched Das Jüngste Gericht, which was yet another detective show/movie that Christoph was in, only this time he was a good guy! Sort of. I don't know, I can't speak German, but he was not the killer for once! Sadly, he got killed by the killer near the end, and this was the first thing I've watched where his character dies, and I got way too emotional about it. He was so adorable! Yeah, he was cheating on his wife, and the killer chose him because he committed adultery, but still, NOT COOL. I wasn't ready for that! Although I sort of was when I figured out that the Ten Commandments had something to do with the murders. And I shouldn't have been that disturbed since plenty of my men like to star in movies where they get killed (Chow Yun-Fat, I'm looking at you), but... oh, I can't take it when it's Christoph. He's too adorable for such an ending! Even when he is being despicable, I still find him to be too adorable to die. That's just a fact. But anyway, I am kind of thankful that like half of Christoph's past work is bit parts in procedurals, because procedurals are so much easier to follow than the rom-coms and other non-procedurals. Plus, this one was pretty interesting. I bet it's even more interesting to people who can actually understand the dialog! Schimanski: Blutsbrüder is still my favorite German thing that he's done though.
