I assure you that I will be up to 20 by the end of tomorrow. I wouldn't put it past me.
Anywho, you know what's frustrating, yet glorious? Finding a fic where you want oodles of fic based on the supporting characters of that fic. For example,
When She Was Bad by Julie Fortune. This was sort of gen fic, but sort of Buffy/Giles and slightly Buffy/Spike and Giles/Jenny, but mostly Spike/Dru and Buffy/Angel, and the concept of the alternate world was so ridiculously glorious that I want an epic based on Spike and Dru and their crazy love story and Dru being a kickass yet slightly insane vampire slayer, with Buffy and Giles being the ridiculously sinister Big Bad. I generally don't read a whole lot of fic that isn't focused on Buffy/Giles, but I so want to read Spike/Dru as this renegade watcher and slayer, with Spike being the noble watcher who feels like a total screw up and has to hold in his feelings for his slayer, and there's this unspoken thing between them and Dru is just as nutty as she is when she's a vampire, and she's the one who had this epic love with Angel, and vamp!Giles and vamp!Buffy are going at each other like rabbits and digging their evilness, and just... I WANT MORE! MORE MORE MORE! You would think I'd want more on what happens after Giles learns about what his vamp self did to Buffy (and she enjoyed), but... no. I want more Spike/Dru in the role of Buffy/Giles, only... they are still very much Spike and Dru. It was an epically awesome fic.
Another frustrating thing? Finding a fic that I enjoyed immensely, made me smile and giggle and cry like a loon through the whole thing, and... the author's account no longer exists, therefore I can't find more fics by said author. ARGH! Such is the price I pay for getting into a mostly dead fandom. But, anyway, the absolutely wonderful Buffy/Giles fic that I rec to all:
Where You'd Least Expect it by
texaslawaggie It was unique and hilarious and lovely and beautiful and I adore angsty-schmoopy post series fics. They are my favoritest, probably because the authors have the freedom to create a whole new world for Buffy and Giles that is generally happy and they can rebuild their relationship and be closer than ever. And this fic did the whole "best friends secretly in love but too stupid to tell each other" thing, which I am a total sucker for. Hence my ridiculous love for such films as When Harry Met Sally and Two Weeks Notice.
I don't know why, but I've been in an angsty-schmoopy Buffy/Giles mood like crazy, so naturally I've been working my way through Gail Christison's fics, because seriously, no one does the epic B/G romances better than her, and... I fell in mad love with this fic:
Destiny's Doorstep. I was up until the wee hours of the morning a few days ago reading that, because I am insane and read fics when I should be sleeping (especially on holidays when I know my parents will wake me up at 7:00am), but that's like... the only time when I can read fics, and this one had me entranced. I just love how this author slowly builds up the romance, throwing in little details that are typically overlooked by most authors. So, yeah, I dug that one. For some reason Giles and Buffy in the outdoors ALONE always makes for a good read by this author.
And... I've been neglecting EVERYTHING ELSE fandom-wise, so I apologize profusely for ignoring other fanfic. I just... Buffy/Giles. They turn me into a squishy blind squee monster. And I am still hopelessly searching for Buffy/Ripper AU fic where somehow Giles never goes back to the watcher's council and stays a rebellious, pot-smoking rocker who is still *destined* for Buffy and Buffy is left without a watcher and she knows she needs one and she's royally pissed off when they tell her where her supposed watcher is and she goes to confront him and tell him to get his butt in gear, and he answers his door all groggy and half-dressed and bed-headed and he's got a cigarette in his mouth and groggily looks Buffy up and down and he's like, "Look, love, I'm a little beat, but you're welcome to come back later," (basically undresses her with his eyes) and Buffy is all offended and she's like, "Ew, what are you, like, 40? Please," and he's like, "Well aren't we proud? If it's not a tumble you want, then why are you here, little girl?" and then Buffy kicks his ass and drags him back to Sunnydale and they have a wonderfully snarky, UST filled relationship that ends in Giles becoming a little more Giles-like over the years because he's good at being a watcher and Buffy falls in love with him because she sees the man behind the failing rocker persona. WHY DOES THIS NOT EXIST? WHY? Or if it does, WHY CAN I NOT FIND IT?
