Slow on the uptake...
Spoilers for Psych: DO NOT WANT! I think I may just skip the rest of season 3. Not really. But, I should.

Anywho, last night I was pondering the dynamics of Buffy/Giles (because I am pathetic and that's what runs through my head when I'm trying to sleep), and I realized that they resemble so many of my ships and that's why I eventually fell SO HARD despite my trying to resist it in the beginning. Just about every one of my ships contain:
1. Age gaps. Some larger than others, but there's almost always an age gap of at least 10 years. The ones with 20-30 years difference in age seem to intrigue me even more.
2. Inappropriateness. Not ridiculously inappropriate, just... inappropriate enough that there's strong opposition to the ship.
3. Assholish Hero/Devoted Servant dynamic. This is the biggie. This seems to be my #1 trigger and I didn't even realize it. If there is a character that is entirely devoted to another and they worship this other person so completely that they stick with them no matter how messed up the relationship is and the hero doesn't love them in the same way, I immediately make grabby hands at the ship. I have no idea why, but I love it. Buffy/Giles, Arthur/Merlin, Michael/Dwight, House/Cameron, Lassiter/Juliet (this one's a bit reversed, but it still holds the same idea), Mary/Marshall, Monk/Sharona (hero-worship on both sides but Monk was the hopelessly devoted one to the end instead of Sharona), Daniel/Betty (again, hero-worship on both sides and they both love each other fiercely, but they're both also kind of assholes to each other sometimes). And then we have the ships where they aren't necessarily boss/assistant (or Master/Servant), but there's definitely hero-worship and devotedness and a little unrequitedness: Alan/Denny, Chuck/Blair, CJ/Toby, Cooper/Violet (before season 2), Crews/Reese (to an extent), Guber/Davis, Guy/Marian, House/Wilson, Jack/Liz, Jerry/Katie, Michael/Ryan, Shawn/Gus, Uther/Morgana (to a much lesser extent considering they often want to kill each other, but they are also terribly devoted to each other when it comes down to it). So, yeah, this dynamic really gets me. Add in giant age gaps and I am ALL OVER THE SUCKER! If I didn't hate Robin so much, I would be madly in love with the Robin/Much ship on Robin Hood, because they contain all the screwed up Master/Servant elements that I love, but I just can't stand that douche enough to even enjoy the ship. *sigh* Seriously, I've never hated a main character so much in my life. I don't know what it is, but I just... ugh, I hate him.
