YOU GUYS! OMG! OMG OMG OMG! SO GOOD!
This episode. THIS EPISODE! SO MUCH AWESOMENESS! SO MUCH HILARITY! SO MUCH DICKISH CHARLIE! SO MUCH ADORABLE CHARLIE! REESE/TIDWELL OMG OMG OMG! YOU GUYS! I'm still on a high, so this is going to be very jumbled.
First, Reese/Tidwell is in danger of becoming my ship for this show. Seriously. I love them. That scene where Dani told Charlie to kill her if she ever slept with Tidwell? PERFECTION! Tidwell looked so wounded, and Reese was a little overzealous in her protest, which means he rumples her. Not to the point of her actually wanting to sleep with him, but he definitely intrigues her. And the scene in the garage, good lord. I pretty much melted. He was so sweet, and he was trying SO hard to make her like him on a "Hey, I'm somebody that you might respect" level. He was trying to bond! It was adorable. My unabashed love of Tidwell continues. Especially after tonight. And if the show keeps Tidwell/Reese at this pace, then I can definitely get behind the ship. Don't shoot me guys, but I can easily see them having a relationship that takes place mostly off screen, we'd just see little moments here and there, and it would be serious, and full of bumps, and lots of Tidwell trying to get close and Reese pushing him away, but somehow it works, because they get each other since they've both basically been down the same roads, and Reese would really, really love him, but... when it came down to the moment, as in Tidwell wants more than she's willing to give, she would end it, quick, like ripping off a band aid, and she'd hate herself because she can't figure out why she won't let herself be happy, and she'd be alone, but not alone, because Crews would be there right beside her. Oooooh, you guys! I can see the entire course of their relationship SO CLEARLY in my head that I will be crushed if it doesn't happen the way that I see it happening in my head. So... yeah, I'm really digging Tidwell/Reese. A lot.
But do you know what's even better than Tidwell/Reese? The adorable, partnershippy moments between Crews and Reese, because that's where the real gold is. They were wonderful tonight with their banter. Perfection. I love that Reese has gone from not really caring who Charlie talks to or what he does in his private life, to being somewhat territorial over him as she watches him talking to Connie. Oh man, I loved her face when Tidwell asked her if Charlie was doing Connie. Hee. ALSO, Charlie was super territorial over Reese in this ep, too. He really didn't like that guy that was trying to get a blood/urine sample from her. Plus, he noticed the tension between Reese and Tidwell and kind of went about finding out if Reese had a thing for Tidwell in a very passive aggressive way. But he loved her answer, and he was almost cocky about it to Tidwell. Loved that. Also, in the elevator, Reese asking him who else punched him. And his utter embarrassment/pouty face. LOVE!!!! And then finally, FINALLY we got Charlie acknowledging that Reese is a good-looking woman. Well, sort of. It was him being territorial more than anything else, but it's the first time we've ever seen him think of her in woman terms rather than partner terms. And I love Reese SO HARD for being so unbelievably gorgeous and yet completely oblivious when guys find her attractive (unless she's on the prowl for some seedy loving, then she's completely aware).
What the freak is up with Connie? Man. They seriously changed her character, which... I'm not too heartbroken about. She used to annoy the hell out of me. But suddenly she's working for the bad guys and undermining Charlie? Say what? The old Connie would never do that. Never. Which makes me wonder what these guys have on her. But her role has been reduced so much that I doubt we'll ever really get much on what's going on with her.
Charlie and Ted are married. I giggled very girlishly when Ted was freaking over Charlie not listening to him about the business school stuff. He really is like a little trophy wife that's cooped up in the house all day and is looking for things to do, and it's all trivial to Charlie, but it's a HUGE FREAKING DEAL to Ted and he's hurt that Charlie doesn't take it seriously. Oh, Ted.
Okay, the Jack Reese scene in the car. I'm sorry, but I cracked up like crazy when Jack was supposed to be angry and pounding the steering wheel going, "No no no no." It was THE most unemotional acting that I have ever witnessed. This guy is 20 times worse than Keanu Reeves. Man. I feel like I should apologize to Keanu for assuming that no one could be as emotionless in their acting as him. I'm sorry Keanu! Anyway, I love that Reese threw a tantrum in the exact same way later in the episode. She was composed when she was around people, and then once she was alone she just let it out, same as Jack. And that scene at the dinner table was WONDERFUL! I love that Dani couldn't hold it in anymore. She finally had to know. And she finally chose Charlie over her father for real this time. Really real.
Charlie/Bamba = OTP. I laughed SO HARD when Charlie got hit in the head with the cracker box. That was awesome. And, I'm a sucker for adorable chimpanzee antics with adorable red-headed guys named Damian, so I was pretty much a puddle of goo. Particularly during the bit where Bamba shared her banana with Charlie.
This episode would have been complete perfection, had it not been for the damn hallucination crap. Blech. I hated that. It's like it was trying too hard to both be funny and to establish for the umpteenth time that Charlie is still in love with Jennifer. I GET IT! I GOT IT WITHOUT THE CHEESY EFFECTS, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! And, I just found it eye-roll worthy rather than funny. Especially since this episode was full of so much organic, quirky comedy that it didn't need a big stunt like that.
Anyway, that was my only major complaint. Also, the confession at the end was a little too L&O again. What happened to the days when they just arrested the guilty people and that was that? Seriously, man. I'm sick of these over-dramatic and/or coerced confessions. They had the evidence, the why was pretty easy to figure out, the dramatic confession was completely unnecessary.
But, the amazingness in this episode was more than enough to cancel out the annoying stuff. I really, really, REALLY loved this episode! So much.
