I have never, EVER watched The West Wing, and yet this outpour of love makes me feel all shippy. This sounds like a very interesting pair. The pictural evidence helped. :)

WATCH IT!!! You will not be disappointed. The show is absolutely AMAZING, and CJ/Toby is full of so much wonderful. They have so many little moments throughout the series that I can't even begin to describe them all. They are awesome. Josh/Donna was the huge ship for the show apparently (and they were actually the ship that my friends enticed me with), but it took me awhile to really warm up to them, but now I love them too. But not as much as I love CJ/Toby.

I found your posting (which I love, btw) by way of The Full Lid. The episode you mention in Season 3 is "The US Poet Laureate." The episode deals with President Bartlet conducting live interviews via satellite with various shows. After the interview is over (but while the camera is still on and recording) he makes a comment suggesting that Ritchie, the Republican running against him in the Presidential election, might be kind of, well, dumb. I think that CJ's comment to Toby was her wondering if the President made his "accidental" comment on purpose (and we find out later that he did.)

That being said, I still think that there's more than just friendship between them. I've always assumed that they had dated in the past and it didn't work out, but that there's always that attraction there between them. I always hoped that Sorkin would reveal more about their past, but alas, it never happened...

Thanks for answering my question! Obviously I have a very shipper-focused brain, because that didn't even occur to me. *facepalm* I'm glad that you enjoyed my post! I really wish we could have seen how CJ and Toby met.
